Basic Requirements:


  • Educated to a degree level in Biological Services/Zoology or equivalent
  • Experience in management including HR understanding.
  • Significant experience as a Home Office Personal Licence holder.
  • NACWO training and qualifications
  • Track record of effectively managing technical staff and research projects.
  • Experience in aquarium maintenance including oxygen, temperature, and tanks.
  • Knowledge of the control and Management of disease transfer and biosecurity.
  • Practice managing technical staff and research projects in a small.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Lead, manage, and develop a complex and diverse team of technical staff.
  • Ensure delivery of an effective, high welfare, and highquality service that supports biomedical and biodiversity research programmes.
  • Purchasing of equipment and consumables organising invoices and placing purchase orders.
  • Responsible for ensuring all existing facilities function in an effective and efficient manner and are compliant with the terms and conditions of the Establishment Licence under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 198
  • Provide advice to researchers on matters relating to animal technology, welfare, breeding programmes, and service costs.
  • To deliver guidance to ensure that new facilities reflect best practices in laboratory animal housing, husbandry, and sustainability.
- strategically plan required staffing and facility resources to meet future needs.

  • Responsible for the Health and Safety, Security of all staff to ensure compliance with current UK legislation, and develop robust policies, protocols, and inductions.
  • Deliver lectures and workshops related to Home Office Modules and training.
