    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity to apply for a Trainee Family Therapist post based within our CAMH Service in Burton.Candidates must have a confirmed training place on a qualifying-level Family Therapy course - formal evidence of this will be required during the recruitment process.

    The role has been developed as part of our vision to have a Family Therapist based within each of our five CAMHS Teams; we currently have 3 qualified Family Therapists and 1 Trainee Family Therapist working in CAMHS.

    Our Burton post is a full-time hours, Band 6 training role which includes in-house supervision from a qualified Family Therapist/Supervisor and funding for the MSc course. The Band 6 post will be fixed term for 24 months. On completion of all training course requirements, the post-holder will then transition to a Band 7 to 8a development role ( wte/30 hours) as a Family Therapist within the Burton CAMHS Team.

    In addition to contributing to systemic and family practice across our CAMHS offer, the post-holder will need to attend external training clinics (as allocated by the course provider) and teaching/training sessions with the course provider.

    We are also happy to consider applications from candidates who will be commencing the 2nd year of a qualifying level Family Therapy training course in 2024.

    Main duties of the job

    Main duties:

    Completion of all qualifying level (MSc) course requirements as set out by AFT including: attendance at teaching/training sessions, joining external training clinics, and completing assessed work

    Providing highly specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapy services to children, young people and their families or carers within South Staffordshire CAMHS under the supervision of a qualified Family Therapist/supervisor

    Acting as the case-holder and care co-ordinator for family/systemic cases

    Working in conjunction with colleagues to offer a multi-disciplinary approach to young people presenting with complexity and risk.

    Attending multi-disciplinary team meetings

    Offering specialist advice, consultation and supervision to colleagues and staff from other agencies

    Delivering and further developing core CAMHS competencies (as set out in the University College London framework)

    What we ask from you

    Working within a CAMHS team and in partnership with your MSc Course provider to:

  • A commitment to complete all qualifying (MSc) Family Therapy course requirements including attendance at teaching sessions, joining external training clinics, and completing assessed work.
  • Within your core CAMHS role, evidence of the development of the full-range of competencies for working effectively within a CAMHS setting with young people presenting with moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
  • A commitment to working within a CAMHS setting within a multi-disciplinary team framework.
  • Provide a highly specialist clinical service to children and young people experiencing a range of psychological difficulties. This will include initial assessment, treatment, review and discharge of an agreed caseload.
  • Working as an autonomous professional, within professional practice guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full clinical responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions.
  • Effective evaluation of your clinical work through the use of outcomes and evaluation measures with a particular focus on service-user feedback.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of services though supporting audit and other improvement activities.
  • Qualifications and training:

  • First or Second class degree, preferably in a relevant subject ( mental health field or social work) or, evidence of ability to study at post-graduate level.
  • Core professional qualification and registration relevant to a mental health setting.
  • Successful completion of Foundation and Intermediate Training, or equivalent, in systemic practice.
  • Confirmed acceptance onto an accredited, qualifying level, Family Therapy training course approved by AFT.
  • Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Following core qualification, significant experience in a setting relevant to child mental health.
  • Experience of working clinically in the NHS including as a case holder for young people presenting with moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of working therapeutically with children, young people and families/carers across a full range of psychological difficulty and case complexity.
  • Experience of supervised clinical practice in systemic assessment, formulation and intervention with clients across a range of care settings including community services.
  • Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets including outcomes and experience data.
  • Experience of risk assessment and risk management within childrens mental health settings.
  • Experience and skills in facilitating effective working relationships in a multi-disciplinary team.
