South Central Ambulance Service are looking to recruit a number of resilient NHS Emergency Dispatch Assistants to join our teams based in Bicester, Oxfordshire on a full and part time basis.

Can you be the calm and level-headed influence in a busy call centre?


As an Emergency Dispatcher, you'll need to be calm and collected and be able to think logically to get the right resources to the right places quickly.

You will be working in front of multiple screens, each with different information on.

Resilience is key as you could be dealing with major incidents whilst liaising with the police and fire service or sending resources to a cardiac arrest whilst liaising with the crews and other agencies.

You do not need to have a medical background, just a desire to help.

We offer full (4 week) dispatch and systems training and following mentoring, you will have the necessary skills to help deliver the right care, first time, every time.

Roles and responsibilities of an Emergency dispatch assistant include:

  • Support and assist emergency dispatchers by following their instructions and assisting with their duties
  • Assist the emergency dispatchers to ensure the systems are maintained and alterations to vehicle movements can be made if advised by the emergency dispatcher
  • Operate the radio and computer assisted systems on behalf of the emergency dispatcher to ensure the correct and accurate information is logged
  • Competent in the use of IT systems
  • GCSE grades 49 or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Customer service experience from a telephone or face to face role
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
  • Good Knowledge of geographical area
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to listen and record information accurately
