    Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist RESTART team (Band 7)

    30 hours part time

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist physiotherapist to join our Respiratory Therapy Acute Response Team (RESTART).

    Being an integral part of the RESTART team, the post holder will play an active role in ensuring service development, quality, safety, and effectiveness and continuing to uphold the ethos of multidisciplinary working.

    This will include local and national audit and benchmarking. They will need to hold a current UK Driving License.

    The post holder will work jointly alongside our other Band 7 and will provide senior clinical provision in physiotherapy to the RESTART team, our COPD outreach team.

    The post holder will also be responsible for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program in West Northamptonshire and treating outpatients referred from consultants and GPs in the Chest Clinic both at Northampton General and Danetre.

    The post holder will be responsible for managing the small rehabilitation team. You will also work closely with healthcare delivery partners in the third sector.


    The ability to work as a confident and knowledgeable member of the multi-disciplinary team is vital in ensuring an effective, quality service and to enable safe and timely discharges.

    To deliver Pulmonary Rehabilitation to the population of West Northamptonshire according to Pulmonary Rehabilitation Accreditation Scheme (PRAS) standards.


    To manage a complex outpatient clinical caseload and demonstrate enhanced practice in holisticassessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

    To make a professional contribution to the multidisciplinary discussion and treatment planning/referral decisions of the team at their regular meetings.

    To become acquainted with all national and global standards of best practice for respiratory care and Pulmonary Rehabilitation e.g. To assist in developing policies and clinical guidelines in collaboration with the Respiratory team, ICB and Restart service.

    To promote clinical excellence reflecting the Trust's strategies for the Allied Health Professions.


    Demonstrate and apply a high level of understanding of illness, injury and disability and the complex interaction between health, functional ability, psychological and social issues within clinical area.


    These interventions will balance the complex interaction of risk, safety, patient choice, independence, areas of conflict and eligibility for services, and provide such expert advice and support to other colleagues.

    Maintain accurate and up to date records of clinical interventions, consistent with legal and organisational requirements.


    Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

    Draw on national and local expertise and resources for this


    Develop working guidelines, protocols and practices that enhance the patient experience in the clinical area in line with national and Trust policies in liaison with Restart and directorate leads.

    Utilise all administration tools to manage and maintain clinic and rehabilitation class waiting lists. Contribute all relevant data to the National Respiratory Audit Program (NRAP) and respond to feedbackfrom this


    Work with peers to ensure that all agreed action plans from both national and local strategies,benchmarking standards and clinical audits are achieved.

    Broaden research and development skills through participation in audit and research projects, initiating and taking the lead where appropriate.

    Promote safe and effective communication channels within therapy and multi-professional teams both at NGH and with external agencies.

    Keep Restart/ Respiratory/ ICB leads informed of all the relevant issues affecting patient care e.g. risk, staffing levels, and skills and equipment needs, providing as required, information and reports.

    Participate in skill mix reviews based on patient dependency, case mix and activity data.

    Promote an awareness of the role of Restart and Pulmonary Rehabilitation within the trust and West Northamptonshire.


    Apply local and national guidelines and legislation relating to Physiotherapy provision within the clinical area and provide guidance to other staff as appropriate.

    Key Competencies/Personal Qualities and Attributes
    Flexible and confident manner with a positive approach and high levels of motivation.
    Ability to manage work pressures to enable management of a caseload alongside involvement in non-clinical and professional activities.
    Enthusiasm for developing the service delivered by Pulmonary Rehabilitation and RESTART team
    Ability to investigate, assess, analyse and interpret complex facts and situations from a physiotherapy perspective.
    Administrative and computer skills

    Ability to identify and assess the need for a wide range of physiotherapy treatments relevant for the patient group signposting accordingly
    Experience as a Band 6/7 in a broad range of specialities, including respiratory, elderly care, cardiology, neurological, and musculoskeletal conditions
    Experience of supervising band 5 and support staff.
    Understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement, and risk assessment.

    Experience at working at a Band 7 level

    Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
