This position will be based in our London office with a hybrid schedule that has the option of working two days remotely each week.

Everest UK are excited to offer this opportunity for a Casualty Liability Underwriter to join our fully empowered team with 50 years plus underwriting knowledge and expertise.

As we look to execute on an exciting growth trajectory across International markets, with the UK playing an important part, this is a key role within the UK Casualty underwriting team as we continue to underwrite opportunity and offer market leading responsiveness and a solution focused mindset to our clients and broking partners


Core Responsibilities:

  • Support the ambitious expansion of the UK Casualty account in line with business plans and underwriting strategy, whilst maintaining a focus on bottom line underwriting profit.
  • Develop a sound understanding of the underwriting strategy for areas of responsibility.
  • Actively participate in execution of the marketing plan, including maintenance of existing broker & customer relationships and developing new relationships, where this is consistent with the objectives set in the Business Plan.
  • Actively invest and be able to demonstrate an expansion of underwriting and product knowledge, through dedicated training (internal and external) and working with other underwriters on specific accounts.
  • Developing the skills required to managing a portfolio of renewal business, including underwriting & pricing, claims, referral, processing, broker, and client relationship aspects; and servicing any new business request in the same way.
  • Represent Everest at meetings both in the office and during visits to brokers, Cover holders and other customers as required.
  • Support the Head of UK Casualty as required, and senior underwriters on specific accounts.
  • Data entry to support / maintain MI.
  • To refer as appropriate risks exceeding delegated underwriting authority and underwrite in compliance with Everest prescribed underwriting standards.
  • To monitor all relevant portfolio KPIs for own account and support the Head of UK Casualty across the broader portfolio.
  • To liaise with the Claims Manager on claims related issues.
  • To participate in the underwriting peer review process at the weekly and monthly underwriting meetings, as required.
  • To monitor and keep abreast of changes in underwriting, regulation, and compliance.
  • To assist in the improvement of rating models, underwriting manuals, service standards, marketing materials, website as required
  • Business travel as required to support the above objectives, and the appropriate management of expenses.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Good technical knowledge of Casualty from an underwriting or broking background, with experience of working on Employers Liability, Public and Products Liability both from a Primary and Excess of Loss basis.
  • Strategic skills show an ability to determine opportunities and threats through comprehensive analysis of current and future trends that may impact our business.
  • Judgment and decisionmaking skills show ability to use logic rationality and objectivity in decision making.
  • Risk taking show the ability to develop a sound underwriting view to take calculated risks with favorable outcomes.
  • Market and product knowledge ability to maintain and develop market knowledge including competitor profiles and products.
  • Relationship management developing ability to establish and maintain sound relationships
