£16.35 per hour

  • Goods Inwards
  • Transport of goods from delivery to Stores or storage areas. Checking goods against delivery documents and note discrepancies or errors. Arranging appropriate storage of goods (room temperature, refrigerated, frozen or special storage forflammable solvents and compressed gasses). Transfer of items requiring ultralow temperature storage (such as 80C or Liquid Nitrogen) to the end user immediately.


  • Counter Service

  • Dispensing goods to end users upon receipt. Occasionally, different users will order the same or similar items on the same order. These need to be separated when goods are issued. A major part of the counter service includes advisingusers on availability of goods; choice of suppliers and goods; best purchasing practice and best value for money.


  • Stock Control

  • Monitoring stock levels and maintaining supply levels as dictated by usual demand. Stock is rotated regularly. Stock checks are carried out biannually and stock levels are matched to system values. Monitor stock records. Phase out itemswhich are deemed low demand and add new items as required.


  • Record Keeping

  • Booking in of received goods on MyFinance. Maintenance of delivery note scanning system. Maintenance of signoff sheet system. Generating monthly reports to be sent to SLMS Finance regarding the expenditure in Stores.


  • Ordering

  • Consolidation and placing of online orders using Science Warehouse and MyFinance. Correction of user errors on the ordering system. Liaising with users regarding queries from suppliers. Approving orders from end users and checking they haveused the correct VAT codes, Grant Codes and suppliers.


  • Suppliers

  • Liaising with company representatives. Maintenance of the supplier vendor rating system (the formal quantification of rating performance). Arranging quotes for stock and nonstock items. Monitoring and renewing quotes for stock items. Monitoringprices for selected stock and nonstock items. Resolve problems, including misordered, misdelivered or damaged goods and progress backordered items.


  • Waste Solvent Disposal

  • Monitoring the waste solvent store and arranging collections with the specialist waste disposal contractor as necessary.


  • Asset Tracking

  • Equipment valued above an agreed threshold (currently £5k) has to be asset tagged, photographed and the relevant information entered on to a database. In most cases this is done on receipt of goods. In other cases e.g. the equipment requiresassembly and commissioning, this is done subsequently in situ.


  • Best Practice

  • Ensuring that Stores activities are carried out in accordance with the company's Purchasing Guidelines, the Stores Standard Operating Procedures, Stores Standards, and the Safety Policy.
  • Other Responsibilities may include
- supporting the six monthly training of new members of staff and Post-Grads in the safe manual handling of gas cylinders.
training temporary staff to a suitable level of operation.
Operating EPOS for recording stock.
