This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of the Financial Accounting Team at Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.


We are seeking to recruit a motivated individual with good numerical/analytical skills and high attention to detail that is organised and able to prioritise their own workload.

You should have a positive and flexible approach to your work and able to adapt to changing/challenging situations.


This is a varied role providing a confidential, efficient and courteous service for Staff, Service Users & Relatives, Suppliers & Customers.

You will support all areas of the Team with the main being Debt Recovery and Patients Estates.


The post is based in Stafford and also covers The Redwoods Centre, Shrewsbury so some travel between sites will be required at times.


  • Administer the recovery of debts for the Trust by regular reporting on the outstanding debts and through following the debtor recovery policy obtain payment or advise if legal action needs to be taken, and arrange.
  • Responsible for providing a confidential, efficient and courteous service for patients, relatives and staff. Maintenance and management of the Patients Estates and cashiering functions at the Stafford & Redwoods site.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of income receipts and invoices for payment on behalf of the Trust.
  • Responsible for the provision of timely, accurate and complete balance sheet reconciliations including responsibility for promptly resolving any associated issues.
  • Ensures financial information is processed in accordance with procedures, in order to provide information for statutory returns.
  • Investigates enquiries providing assistance & advice as required.
  • Ensures that work is completed in line with financial timescales and legal requirements, interpreting these where necessary
  • Provide advice to patients/clients regarding e.g. charges

  • Experience and expertise in a range of accounting areas (e.g. reconciliation and balances, VAT payments and deductions, finance computer systems and ledgers, coding structures, payroll agreements & procedures), knowledge of legislation as it affects own finance area, acquired through NVQ Level 4/ Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Technician level or equivalent experience.
  • Proposes changes to working practices and procedures (e.g. when planning for the impact of new legislation) and implements procedures set by others.
  • Demonstrates activities, work routines to others in own work area/allocates work to finance officers in the section. Provides some induction training for trainees, new members of staff, delivers finance training to nonfinance managers.
  • Day to day management of team including e.g. recruitment (or assisting with recruitment), appraisal, discipline, training.
  • Undertakes surveys or audits as required for own work/undertakes e.g. complex audits within the finance department to improve financial and accounting services.
  • To keep the Financial Accountant appraised of significant issues relevant to the post.
  • To provide an excellent service to all relevant users and to undertake all associated duties in line with expected professional standards.
  • Responsible for liaising with the Assistant Financial Accountant to ensure records within systems are organised in a manner which facilitates optimum data availability within the general ledger.
  • Responsible for providing professional, efficient, cost effective services liaising with clinicians, Managers and Directorate accountants as appropriate to ensure queries are resolved promptly, high processing standards are maintained.
