We have an exciting opportunity for a Therapy Assistant post within the In-patient Therapy Team on the Medical wards at Watford General Hospital.


The successful applicant must have significant experience as a therapy or nursing assistant in the NHS and have a passion for assessing and rehabilitating patients in the acute setting.

They will join a friendly, dedicated therapy team providing high quality stroke care.


The role also includes supporting our qualified members of staff to deliver complex treatments to patients and to assist with the running of the department including data collection and equipment ordering.


To enhance your development, you will be line managed, supervised and trained by a tier of Band 6 and 7 Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists within the Stroke Team.


There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are due for completion by 2025 or soon after.

These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

To treat own caseload of patients on the care of the elderly wards and to aid a timely discharge from the Acute Service.

To accept in-patients referred from Physiotherapists and carry own in-patient caseload. Treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitor progression, make alterations as required.

To use clinical reasoning to utilise a range of assessment and treatment skills to formulate treatment programmes.

To work unsupervised regularly and report back progress or change from expected findings to a qualified therapist.


To communicate with relevant medical and nursing staff, social workers, and other health care professionals, also patients' relatives and carers who may be in direct contact with the post holder with regard to patient care in order to facilitate a team approach to patient care.

To be key in the planning of discharge of patients, working alongside discharge co-ordinators, social workers and therapists.

To make timely onward referrals to community services to support discharge from the Acute setting.

To have clinical supervision on a regular basis by a more senior member of the team. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences and reflective practices.

To actively participate in seven day working including weekend working reflecting the needs of the service.
