The Clothing & General Supplies Team (CGST) is an integral part of the Navy Command Force Generation (FGEN) Logistics (Logs) Division, supporting the Royal Navy's front-line operations.

In Navy Command, our civil servants work alongside their military colleagues in jobs that matter; jobs which often have a direct impact on the quality of the operational capabilities we deliver.

Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ) is the nerve centre of the Naval Service, supporting Operations around the globe and providing the people, ships, submarines, aircraft and equipment to deliver the UK's Defence Policy.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:

The FGEN Logs Division is responsible for operational support planning and for keeping the Fleet supplied.

It also defines the requirement for logistic aspects of both future capabilities and for in-service capability management for Maritime surface, Sub-Surface, Aviation and Royal Marine Land systems.

It also acts as the Intelligent Customer to DE&S for commodities, is the support lead for land equipment operated by the Royal Marines, and responsible for setting logistic standards and practices onboard ships and submarines.

The 1* head, DD FGEN Logs, has a functional leadership role in the Navy's logistic branch as Deputy Chief Naval Logistic Officer.

In addition, DD Logs is the RSO for the six RN Oil Fuel Depots (OFDs) with the fuel commodities team managing the programme towards full regulatory compliance while maintaining provision of maritime fuels for current activity and contingent operations.


The Category Manager Support role within CGST has been created to provide a support function to the role of the Category Managers.

The role is pivotal in enabling the Category Managers to act as the Intelligent Customer within NCHQ.

This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Undertake data analysis for stock availability; identifying 'at risk' items
  • Log and analyse customer feedback, highlighting trends that may require changes to requirements
  • Provide data analysis, including the use of graphics, to enable supplier performance management
  • Assist with demand forecasting
  • Facilitate trials of new to service uniform items

Person specification:

  • Experience of Royal Navy would be desirable, but not essential
