Community Engagement and Volunteer Officer


Responsible to:
Head of Business Development & Community Development Manager


Responsible for:
Community Centre Assistants and Volunteers


Hours of work: 24 per week, flexible to include term time only if required.


Salary:
£24,960 pro rata (actual salary £14,976) to include paid lunch breaks, pension and healthcare plan


Location:
YMCA Worcestershire Willow Trees Community Centre but there may be a requirement to visit other sites on occasion.


Job Purpose:

To develop and deliver a volunteer program, provide support to the Community Centres and be responsible for recruitment and management of volunteers.

Job Context:


An exciting opportunity has arisen at YMCA Worcestershire for a new Community Engagement and Volunteer Officer to develop a volunteer program for YMCA Worcestershire.

The role will be based at Willow Trees Community Centre, Redditch.

In addition to developing a volunteer program the person in this role will provide regular support in the centre including taking bookings and ensuring smooth operations as well as developing and strengthening community initiatives.


Duties and Responsibilities

Volunteer Development:


  • Develop, evaluate, and maintain a vital volunteer program to enhance YMCA Worcestershire beneficiary offering.
  • Recruit, train, develop and support volunteers to deliver and supplement the delivery of YMCA Worcestershire services.
  • Work alongside Community Centre staff and the YMCA Development Officer to develop a comprehensive volunteer needs assessment for YMCA Worcestershire with a focus on developing the community offering at Willow Trees Community Centre.
  • Track volunteers, and records skills, performance, availability, and scheduling
  • Work with the Development team to establish a system of volunteer benefits and recognition program.
  • Develop a volunteer manual for internal use that provides information and guidelines for staff, as well as YMCA information, job descriptions and expectations.
  • Schedule volunteers into shift work for centre activities, based on departmental needs and organisational priorities.
  • Maintain high levels of communication to keep volunteers properly informed about the centre and their duties through various avenues.
  • Ensure proper background checks are performed before appointment with the assistance of the HR Department.
  • Work with appropriate staff to ensure volunteers are properly trained in their area of service.
  • Supervise volunteers to support the smooth running of the centre.
  • Devise goaloriented work schedules.
  • Review volunteers' performance at scheduled intervals.
  • Ensure compliance with volunteerspecific and organisational guidelines, policies and procedures.

Community Centre:


  • Assist the Community Centre Assistant in reporting on centre activity.
  • Assist in carrying out weekly and monthly health and safety checks.
  • Enable community groups, young people, and members of the public to provide and have access to community services within the centre.
  • Setting up rooms ready for bookings.
  • Show potential customers around the venue.
  • Monitor and order cleaning materials for each centre.
  • Assist in the provision of services to the local community and liaise with the community to ensure their satisfaction and cooperation with the centre.
  • Open and close buildings as required, including ensuring adequate security and key holding.
  • Ensure the centre is clean and tidy on a daytoday basis.
  • Help to organise centre events.
