    Job summary

    An excellent opportunity has arisen for confident, compassionate and clinically credible nurse to join our dedicated 84 Outpatient team at the Royal Manchester children's hospital. We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 RSCN/RN Child with substantial experience at Band 5 within the field of Paediatric oncology/haematology.

    Ward 84 OPD/DCU is the regional centre for the treatment of children with life threatening malignancies and blood disorders. It is a dedicated outpatient and day case facility. Our clinic facilitates 16 Oncology/Haematology clinics per week including a weekly general anaesthetic list for bone marrow and lumbar puncture procedures. The day case unit cares for children and families undergoing complex treatment for Oncology/Haematology conditions. We care for patients and families from the UK undergoing proton beam therapy in partnership with the Christie part of our Haematology/oncology service there is also a 32 bedded inpatient ward and a 14 bedded BMT/Stem cell therapy unit.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful candidate will support a team of registered and non-registered nurses and will work alongside the Ward Manager and Practice Educator with a particular focus on:

    Leadership and professional role modelling through complex communication, challenging practice as required and celebrating achievement as is it occurs.

    Supporting the Ward Manager to ensure quality, safety and patient experience, you must have excellent communication and organisational skills and be enthusiastic about delivering the highest standards of safe patient care.

    You'll act as an experienced preceptor and be competent in the administration of IV chemotherapy. The role requires the successful candidate to demonstrate good leadership, organisational and problem solving skills. You will be committed to improving quality of care and the patient experience. You'll provide visible clinical leadership and professionalism as you help the Ward Manager to ensure the core values and beliefs of the department, the directorate, the division and the Trust are delivered at all times.

  • Post basic evidence of study
