This post if one of only three in the country, and therefore an opportunity not to be missed.


Working alongside the Non - medical consultant /Head of Speech and Language Therapy, and the Head of Dietetics, you will form part of leadership triumvirate to the Integrated Nutrition and Communication Service.

You will provide clinical leadership within the Trust, and across the LSC to improve the quality of the service provided to patients who require nutrition support.

Your contribution to the development of the service at both operational and strategic level will focus and streamline the provision of service for often-complex groups of patients in order to provide a seamless high quality service.


You will have a highly visible clinical profile, providing both advisory and clinical input into patient care, spending a minimum of 50% of time in clinical practice.

You will have clinical responsible for a patient group within nutrition nursing services and work collaboratively and in partnership with the Trust Management Board, Divisional Directors, Clinical Leads and LSC to ensure appropriate development, configuration and funding of INCS nursing services, actively seeking funding.


As the Non Medical Consultant, you will be an expert practitioner leading nutrition support and will be responsible for the management of patients working closely with the other members of the multi-professional teams across both sectors in order to provide a seamless service for patients.

This will require you to work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical expertise and will also need to possess expertise in clinical risk management, examination and diagnostic techniques, intervention and treatment strategies, change management and the provision of staff support and training across organisational and professional boundaries.


The role will involve providing education and high-level advice to multi-disciplinary professionals and will help to develop a programme of education and research within this area.

You will be expected to take a lead in developing and implementing protocols and services for the management of patients and implement evaluations to test the efficacy of such protocols and service developments.


The role also involves professional responsibility for the leadership of all three nursing services within INCS - namely nutrition nursing, CVAT and TACT.

You will work with the three Heads of Service to support and develop the services to provide measurable high quality for patients and families.

Within your role, you will provide leadership, guidance and exercise judgement in making challenging patient centred decisions within current best practice guidance, relevant legal frameworks and with clear understanding of the relevant professional and applied ethical frameworks.


You will autonomously act and develop recognition for their expertise in the field of nutrition nursing having developed specialist clinical knowledge.

Ensure patient / client centred care and family and carer collaboration and where appropriate promote maintenance of health, wellbeing and independence.


Manage a defined caseload that will focus on patient presentations: Receive referrals, assess, order, interpret and act upon investigative tests, consider differential diagnosis, evaluate, treat, plan, refer and discharge patients within the Trust.
