The post holder will work as part of the Linen services team providing a high quality and responsive Linen service to the Trust, its patients and staff with direct responsibility for Linen service assistants.


The post holder will assist the management team in ensuring the service runs smoothly and effectively with responsibility for contributing to providing a high quality and responsive Linen service on a daily basis.


This post will be responsible for the production of clean linen for the Trust through the laundry and dry cleaning unit.

The laundry currently produces 155,000 pieces of linen per week and this is essential to the operation of the Trust and patient care.

The post holders will be responsible for achieving the current PPOH target and helping to drive forward productivity on a daily basis.


Hours of work will be 37.5 per week working between the hours of 5.30am and 8.00pm on a rota basis which will include weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that the appropriate level of service is provided 24 hours per week, 365 days per year.

Assist where appropriate in the investigation of any complaint regarding the service.

To develop and maintain performance and quality standards.

To demonstrate leadership, development and motivation of the team.

Report any faults on the equipment and/ or productivity of the laundry.

Escalate issues which may have an adverse effect on the service provision.

Administration duties required to ensure the department operates efficiently & effectively on a daily basis.

Allocate jobs including planning of rotas to ensure sufficient staffs are on duty.

Complete staff training, ensuring that they are fully competent and certified.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main duties are as above as well as the following:
Responsible for ensuring effective processes are in place for the induction of new staff.


Monitor levels of sickness through the Trusts attendance management policy taking staff to stage 1 then passing onto management to progress further.


Ensure that overtime is kept to a minimum and all other avenues explored before seeking authorisation for overtime and/or additional staffing.

Offer solutions for cost improvements/service developments.

Must be able to support front-line Linen service staff in times of shortfall in staffing levels.

To adopt a flexible approach in response to operational needs regarding duties and hours of work.


To record accurate records of productivity by all members of Linen services and feedback any improvements that can be made by individuals to aid the delivery of clean linen to patients.


Ensure the department operates efficiently & effectively on a daily basis in relation to flow and quality of work and that targets are achieved and organise cover for absences of Laundry staff.


Produce and interpret information and data to maintain and improve capacity and capability and support planning and performance management within the Service.

Contribute to Service risk management process including the assessment of health and safety issues.

Dealing with any issues as they arise, as appropriate or taking action within remit to address them to ensure security and safety of staff / buildings as appropriate.


Investigate and resolve problems and complaints relating to the provision of the service's clinical and administrative services in a thorough and timely manner to produce a satisfactory outcome.

Assist the clerical services manager where appropriate in the investigation of any complaint regarding the service.

Participate in appropriate cross-Directorate working groups and committees to represent the service where required.

Ensure induction arrangements are in place for all new linen service staff.

Assist in the ordering, monitoring and control of all stocks.
