To commence as soon as possible

John Flamsteed Community School is a great place to learn and to work. We are a popular and over-subscribed 11-16 school with 850 students on roll. We benefit from a rural location in the quiet village of Denby and have a diverse and interesting site with an abundance of green spaces. The school has a small and community feel where we instil in our students "The JF Way: We are ambitious. We are committed. We are proud" to ensure we are leading all students to be able to achieve "nothing short of remarkable" and we consequently strive to have the highest of expectations and standards from and for all our students.

Results from the summer 2023 were very strong, however, we are not complacent and are seeking to now sustain and further improve upon our successes to provide the highest-quality education for all of the children of our community. John Flamsteed is a member of the East Midland Education Trust; a highly successful partnership of 23 willing, proud and autonomous schools. The post holder would, therefore, benefit from the support and guidance of the specialist EMET Estates team.

The post of Business Operations Manager has arisen as the current postholder is retiring after many years at the school. This is an exciting time to be joining us as the school has recently secured funding from the DfE for the School Rebuilding Programme and we are in the very early stages of understanding what our new build could look like. The candidate would play an integral part in working with the DfE to shape the future of the school and ensure the new building is fit for purpose and the configuration best suits our curriculum needs.

We are looking for a driven, organised and highly-skilled candidate to join our team. The successful candidate will be passionate about ensuring health and safety compliance across the school and will have a sound knowledge-base and understanding of all issues pertaining to school premises. They will recognise the importance of leading strategically as well as managing operationally and will have a keen eye for detail.

This multifaceted role encompasses the oversight and leadership of school operations across the site, including:

    • the maintenance and development of the school's buildings and facilities
    • leadership of all matters pertaining to health and safety
    • the administrative support team, the site team, the catering provision and the cleaning provision
    • management of delegated budgets

The successful candidate will be able to lead and develop the vision in these areas to ensure the best outcomes for our students and school. Working directly with the Executive Head Teacher and also the Head of School and other members of the Senior Leadership Team, the post holder will be able to grow the role to really make it their own.

Please ensure your completed application is returned no later than 9.00am on the Closing Date.

Applicants should include a statement setting out why you would like this role, how your previous experience has prepared you for the role, and what difference you will make to the John Flamsteed School should you be appointed.

If you have any questions or would like an informal discussion about the post or would like a tour around the school, please contact Jackie Hampton, PA to the Executive Head Teacher on or

If you would welcome this challenge and feel you could bring your skillset to our school, then we want to hear from you

We welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion.

Interviews to take place on Thursday 6 June 2024

Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.
