    We are looking for candidates to join an exciting time within Cancer Services at Somerset Foundation Trust. Working as part of a new service providing an integrated front door service for those patients who have GI suspected cancer symptoms.

    Main duties of the job Working as an integral part of the Faster diagnosis team (FDT) across Somerset. The post will ensure that patients referred on a suspected cancer pathway are informed that they have cancer or that cancer is excluded within a maximum of 28 days from referral. You will experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan - there is truly something for everyone Job description Job responsibilities The role will be to ensure patients triage is undertaken promptly to allow for investigations to be carried within a timely manner. This may involve telephone consultations and desktop triage. Facilitating straight to test/appointments to assist in the delivery of results to the patient within the 28 days. The role will support compliance against the 28 days and 62 days standard for Cancer Waiting Time (guidance, working autonomously and in collaboration with colleagues, proactively identifying potential and actual risks for non-compliance with the pathway, instigating mitigating actions or escalating as appropriate.

    As part of this you will be required to request investigations which could include diagnostic imaging, outpatient clinics and endoscopy. In some cases it will be the responsibility of the FDT, to inform patients of benign findings within in a timely fashion, to meet the 28 day diagnosis requirements. For patients with results highlighting a cancer or potential cancer, you will work closely with cancer services and the speciality specific teams to ensure a swift transition to the responsible team Person Specification Qualifications Essential
    • RGN 1st level with Full NMC registration
    • Relevant accredited post registration qualification at level 3
    • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous personal developments
    Desirable
    • Advanced communication skills training
    • Obtained or working towards a Masters level qualification in a relevant subject
    • Clinical examination skills
    Knowledge Essential
    • Demonstrate an up to date and detailed knowledge of relevant guidelines and clinic practice as required
    • Experience or evidence of ability in triaging acute care referrals and understanding of diagnostic pathways
    Desirable
    • Working knowledge of the latest Cancer strategy (Achieving world class cancer outcomes a strategy for England and the NHS long term plan Jan 2019
    • Experience of working with cancer patients
    • Knowledge of national and local issues that affect the provision of cancer services
    • Knowledge of nurse/practitioner led initiatives & national policy
