We are looking for a talented and driven individual with a postgraduate background, with editorial/copy editing experience to become ICO's new Copy Editor.

Job Summary:


As a Copy Editor/Proofreader at ICO, you'll get to showcase your expertise in elevating the written word and work on an important research project.

We have been studying the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and have recently finished a 30 page report on the topic.


We are now looking for an experienced volunteer copy editor with an understanding of the academic publishing process to publish our work.

This will require editing and proofreading the report and then finding an appropriate platform to publish.


More specifically, you'll get to:

  • Review drafts to ensure the work is free of errors; correct any grammatical, punctuation and/or spelling errors; overall copy flow and tone, and maintain a consistent style (e.g., use of hyphenation, capitalization, punctuation, etc.)
  • Perform basic factchecking of editorial content, including articles and data, as necessary
  • Complete the project by ensuring and coordinating the publication of an important research project.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline and 12 years of related experience
  • Familiarity with APA, Harvard and other academic referencing style guides
  • Factchecking and research expertise
  • Meticulous nature and an eye for detail
  • Excellent written skills, including solid knowledge of English spelling and grammar
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat's commenting tools
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and maintain highquality work while adhering to tight deadlines
  • 1+ years of experience working with academic journals/publications is desirable.
