Volunteer Research Internship:
Local Council Capacity Building, Cameroon

(ICO) International communities Organisation

Remote, Voluntary.

We are looking for a talented and driven individual with a postgraduate background to become ICO's new Research Intern.


Here you will make an important contribution to ICO's mission in Cameroon, where we are working to build the capacity of local councils in Anglophone areas.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to a project that is working to transform lives on the ground.

For this role you should have a particular strength in research and reporting. Experience or knowledge of local governance is desirable.

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • Generating research and collating information into a coherent report
  • Investigating local governance best practices
  • Converting international best practices into an accessible report for local councils in Cameroon
  • Transforming the report into a final 'toolkit'
  • Supporting the organisations we are representing and coordinating with local stakeholders
  • Writing, editing and proofreading reports, briefings and submissions
  • Providing administrative support to the team and projects:

Skills and experience:

  • At least one year of work experience in a research or policyrelated role / Or postgraduate background in research
  • Demonstrable qualitative and quantitative research skills
  • Ability to work remotely with little supervision and use initiative to achieve your objectives, seeking advice and support when needed
  • Flexible, willing and enthusiastic to work on a range of different projects and tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to produce accurate work
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing
  • Excellent computer skills, with knowledge and practice of Word and Excel
  • Committed and driven to help achieve the aims of ICO
