An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled, innovative and enthusiastic senior antimicrobial pharmacist to join our Clinical Pharmacy team.

- support the development of a culture within the Trust that reduces healthcare associated infection and supports excellence in antimicrobial prescribing.
- provide expert advice on antibiotic use to all healthcare practitioners in the organisation and be responsible for facilitating the safe and cost effective use of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents.
- develop and implement training programmes and policies related to the use of antimicrobials for a wide range of healthcare professionals in collaboration with the Trust's Consultant Microbiologists
- lead, plan and undertake audits on compliance to local policies and antimicrobial prescribing
- provide leadership for pharmacy on all areas of antimicrobial prescribing

The Pharmacy department within West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is located on three sites and has over 100 staff, with the main Pharmacy department based at Watford General Hospital.

  • The post holder will support the development of a culture within the Trust that reduces healthcare associated infection and supports excellence in antimicrobial prescribing.
  • He/she will provide expert advice on antibiotic use to all healthcare practitioners in the organisation and will be responsible for facilitating the safe and cost effective use of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents.
  • The post holder will develop and implement training programmes and policies related to the use of antimicrobials for a wide range of healthcare professionals in collaboration with the Trust's Consultant Microbiologists and lead, plan and undertake audits on compliance to local policies and antimicrobial prescribing.
  • He/she will also help in identifying potential cost savings associated with antimicrobial use within the Trust.
  • The post holder (where qualified) may also work under this job description as a fully independent pharmacist prescriber in an agreed area of competency to meet the local needs of patients and the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
