The team is responsible for the technical analysis of a large amount of complex data to enable the accurate completion and submission of a variety of tax returns to HMRC including:

  • monthly Value Added Tax
- quarterly Value Added Tax (subsidiary company)
- annual Corporation Tax (subsidiary company)
- monthly Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)


The team is also responsible for managing the process for employment status assessments and appeals, escalating where needed, so that related payments flow efficiently in line with the latest HMRC IR 35 rules, and for maintaining a log of all off-payroll workers so that annual reporting requirements are satisfied.


The post holder will be based at City Campus but will also be required to work from home or occasionally at the QMC Campus at times.

JOB TITLE:

JOB SUMMARY
This is a specialist technical role within the Finance and Procurement directorate.

The post holder will be part of the Tax & Compliance team and assist the manager in ensuring the Trust's position is accurate and compliant at all times in respect of a variety of tax matters.


The Tax & Compliance team is the main liaison point for the Trust in all dealings with HMRC and external tax advisors.

As this role involves liaison with both internal colleagues and external agencies such as HMRC, external auditors and tax advisers, it requires the post holder to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behaviour together with the need for confidentiality and discretion in all of their dealings.

The post holder will be based at City Campus and their home address, as the team are working on a hybrid model.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
***Carrying out technical reviews of Purchase Ledger; analysis of all invoices (including overseas supplies), consideration of the COS rules to confirm VAT position, and calculation of all VAT reclaims or payments due. This involves the assimilation and interpretation of large amounts of complex data in conjunction with the relevant tax legislation. Posting of VAT adjustments to the Ledger and ensuring that these are reconciled on a monthly basis is integral to this process.

  • Assist in compiling and providing the Trust advisors with all information required for completion of the annual reviews and annual Partial Exemption submission by the appropriate deadline. Analyse the reviews to consider and resolve any outstanding queries to ensure that all adjustments are made within the appropriate deadline. Create and input the journal for VAT corrections that are raised by the external advisors.
