REED Reading is recruiting for Two Family Worker/ Social Workers for Local Authority in Reading


Job role and responsibilities
To manage a number of families waiting for early help Family Worker support.
For families who are being contacted first time after being allocated to wait list undertake a home visit to:

  • Confirm family needs can be supported via tier 2 early help. Speak with line manager if any further concerns to discuss if escalation is required.
  • Discuss with the family/young person the referral that has been made and reasons for it, ask if there is anything else that we need to be made aware of. Ensure family understand they are on a wait list for support and approximate time scale to allocation

For all families:

  • Identify any immediate tasks that could be completed swiftly eg access to food banks, benefit check, school admissions and undertake these.
  • Agree contact period with family (usually every 2 weeks) for telephone follow up until allocation and undertake these.
  • Undertake home visits for those families you/Line Manager are concerned about.
  • Provide family with contact details if they want to discuss any concerns or seek further advice.
  • Speak with line manager if any further concerns to discuss if escalation is required.

Qualifications & Education- A qualification in children's social care or

  • A good general education (NVQ Level e.g. A-Levels or equivalent)

Experience- Substantial experience of working with children and young people in either a paid or voluntary capacity in a variety of settings.

  • Experience of working with families / parents/carers
  • Experience of working within a safeguarding environment with families with complex needs.
