Description
Do you want to be part of the change we're bringing to mental health support?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner to join Northpoint.

In the role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mental health support to children and young people, their families and carers, in educational and mental health settings across Calderdale.

Providing support to schools to develop their approach to wellbeing will also be a key aspect of the job.

You will join us on a permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary, and the training and development to equip you for the role of an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) once qualified, after a 12-month university and work-based placement.

Why us?
Northpoint is a leading provider of mental health services and support across Yorkshire.

We take pride in our programme of work to enhance the health and wellbeing, and future life chances of our children and young people.

We work with local partners and stakeholders to improve outcomes for children, young people, and families.

Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner programme:

In line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors.

We are looking to recruit a trainee to join our Calderdale team.

The training programme is due to start in September and is 12 months in duration.

Following successful completion of the one-year programme, you will be offered a permanent position paid at NHS Agenda for Change Band 5 salary.

Delivery of the programme will be provided through a combination of taught days within university, independent self-guided study days and experience gained in education wellbeing and mainstream mental health services.

What you will be doing as our Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner:

Based in school settings around Calderdale you will be responsible for delivering three core functions (with supervision and support), alongside completing your university course.

Three core functions:

  • Undertake direct assessments and interventions for young people within education. We offer a lowintensity service model, using cognitive behavioural therapy.
  • Support the development of a wholeschool or college approach to wellbeing. This can include, but is not limited to, supporting sites to develop and implement mental health and wellbeing policies, development of resources, supporting campaigns and delivering training, assemblies and PHSE curriculum.
  • Provide timely advice and signposting support to education staff. This is designed to support teaching staff to build their skills and confidence in supporting the wellbeing needs of their students/pupils.

What are we looking for in our ideal Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner:

  • Displays compassion, care, sensitivity, and responsiveness to other people's feelings and needs
  • Commitment to professional development as the training year is an exciting but challenging opportunity
  • Selfmotivated
  • Reliable

  • Ability to plan and organise workload in line with targets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communicating clearly and concisely at all levels (both orally and in writing)
  • Able to work as part of a team, collaboration, cocreation, and a willingness to take the initiative/lead as needed
