Activities/Driver Volunteer


The Disabilities Trust is a national charity, providing residential and home support services to meet the needs of individuals with Acquired Brain Injuries.

We are keen to build a network of volunteers to help us deliver services and activities that can enrich the lives of the people we support.

Volunteers providing their time, skills and experience can help us to offer more opportunities to the people we support.


Volunteer Role:
Activities Volunteer/Driver


Services:
Redford Court and Redford Court Lodge


Role Purpose:

To support the Trust in providing a range of activities for the people we support.

To participate in, and / or arrange activities appropriate to individuals' needs, with the aim of enhancing the lives of the people we support, maximising their independence and improving their wellbeing.


Activities can include:


  • Socialising with our residents within the confines of your volunteering role
  • Getting involved and supporting with planned group activities
  • Organising specific activities if you have skills, hobbies and interests that you would like to share to meet the personal interests of the people we support
  • Supporting residents to participate in vocational, learning and recreational activities
  • Helping residents to clean their rooms and organise their possessions and clothing
  • Helping residents to access the resources and activities available in local communities
  • Helping to tidy up after activities
  • Driving people we support and support workers to appointments and venues in the community

We won't ask you to get involved in the care of the people we support


We won't ask you to get involved in personal care, financial support, medical activities, such as feeding, or to support or administer medication.

These voluntary roles are to complement our existing employees who hold these caring responsibilities.


Qualities we'd love you to bring:

  • You'll be friendly and go out of your way to understand the needs of the people we support.
  • You'll be great at listening
  • You'll be reliable. Always let us know if you can't support when you normally do.
  • You'll understand the importance of working within guidelines and always report anything of concern to a supervisor.

Induction and Training


We will provide you with an induction to your role and the training you need to be able to comply with all relevant policy and procedures, including health & safety, safeguarding and confidentiality.


Checks:

We will need to complete reference checks and DBS checks (at no cost to volunteers)
