A bit about the role
:


Within this role you'll be leading and managing a small number of Senior Managers within the Distressed Investments (DI) team which will actively manage a portfolio of Distressed Lending cases (including: debt, equity, guarantees and equity investments) residing within the larger Distressed Positions team.

These cases will comprise high profile problem lending cases within the Agency, having been passed to the DI team due to the identification of Delivery, Credit loss or Reputational risk.


The Head of DI will assist the Assistant Director (DI) in designing, implementing, and maintaining an effective system for identifying, analysing, and assessing emerging risk within the mainstream portfolio which is managed by the Portfolio Management team.


You'll be delivering elected restructuring strategies internally through: Risk, Investment Program Executive, Credit & Risk Committee, (and when required) the Risk teams within Ministry - Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities of (DLUHC) and the Treasury.


The role will also assist with the maintenance, management, and implementation of the DI designed Watch List Process through monthly updates to Risk and monthly management meeting with Portfolio Management and Risk, which are minuted and passed to the CRO to fulfil a robust and auditable review process.

Maintenance of an effective database of all potential, current and historic impaired and written down loans, to provide an accurate and concise assessment of the position of the Investment Directorate Risk exposures.


Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, Distressed Positions, the role holder will be required to exhibit gravitas and negotiation skills both externally and internally in a high-pressure public environment.

Complimentary requirements include an exceptional Credit & Risk and Organisational skill set. You'll be required to demonstrate extensive technical capability in insolvency procedures and restructuring options.


A bit about you:


You'll have significant experience in successfully leading and managing a team of individuals who have worked with distressed lending positions.

Leadership experience is also essential and credibility to run a high output team dealing with diverse risk problems in high pressure situations.


You'll be able to show proven experience of credit risk and managing complex lending positions to maximise the Agency delivery while minimising financial loss; by using refined analysis and problem-solving techniques so as to achieve the optimum outcome.


Portfolio and Customer Relationship Management experience is required as is experience in negotiating with wide range of counterparties which will range from SME housebuilders to large housebuilders which may be publicly, or RP owned.


You will have the ability to concisely present complex distressed lending problems with a decided work out strategy to Senior Management, Board members within the Agency, and DLUHC and HMT and in both written and verbal format.


Proven understanding of insolvency law and the law relating to Administration, Law of Property Act Receivership, and other enforcement mechanisms (for example schemes of arrangement and sale of debt).

You'll also have Evidence of working, negotiating, and delivering to tight deadlines, while under pressure to deliver optimal outcomes, making decisions under the pressure of short timescales and external and internal expectations.
