Job description:

The role will lead the Commercial projects and Partnering team and stakeholders through a significant step-change in the way DIT Commercial deliver a commercial service by leading on:

  • significant portfolio of commercial spend,
- business and category strategies, and
- delivering excellent commercial outcomes for DIT's key priorities.


In this role you will lead the provision of a central service for our UK Exports & Trade (which includes our Government to Government agreements) and Strategy & Investment Directorates, as well as leading on the commercial relationship management with the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) to whom we provide outsourced commercial support.

You will support colleagues across DIT and HMG with procurement and contracting best practice and advice to deliver against team, departmental and cross government objectives.


And, as a member of the Government Commercial Function and as part of the DIT Commercial Senior Leadership Team, you will play a leading role in the team, actively supporting colleagues to deliver against team objectives, representing the team at a senior level within DIT and to wider government and industry.


Person specification:


  • Building and managing key relationships with the Exports & UK Trade (DGET) and Strategy & Investment (DGSI) Directorates, external stakeholders, suppliers and other corporate functions including Change, Portfolio, Finance and HR teams and championing coordinated delivery
  • Leading and supporting your team in providing effective business partnering and commercial delivery for DGET and DGSI across programme, procurement and contract management activity
  • Leading and supporting your team in ensuring that commercial risk in DGET and DGSI is understood and managed. This is achieved through supporting business planning, maintaining a pipeline of activity, providing ontheshoulder commercial advisory as well as project and commercial management for major programmes
  • Leading and supporting your team in to act as lead commissioner on behalf of DGET and DGSI for complex projects, leveraging existing DIT category teams to deliver sourcing requirements where appropriate and delivering noncategory procurements
  • Leading and supporting your team in identifying and managing high priority, high risk, high value Contracts and Supplier Relationships. Including ensuring robust Contract Management, aligned to the Government Commercial Organisation (GCO) best practice, is embedded and our contracts are delivering Value for Money
  • Ensuring that your team adhere to functional, departmental and team policies and ensuring that your team data and records are complete
  • Providing leadership beyond your immediate team, contributing to the continuous improvement efforts of the wider DIT commercial function including being an active member of the senior leadership team and commercial governance board.
