Thorn SDS are seeking a number of experienced and qualified Salvage and Marine Operations Specialists to work on behalf of our Central Government client.
As a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) in this field, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance and leadership in salvage and marine operations.
Your extensive knowledge of marine industry standards, regulations, and best practices will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective execution of salvage operations and marine projects.
The nature of the project will allow for full and part time roles across all skills, experience levels.Key Responsibilities are still to be determined and will vary across the roles, but will mainly compromise of:
- Lead and oversee all aspects of salvage and marine operations, from initial planning and risk assessment to execution and post-operation analysis.
- Collaborate closely with crossfunctional teams, including naval architects, marine engineers, legal advisors, and external stakeholders, to develop comprehensive salvage plans and strategies.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure that salvage and marine operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Assess and mitigate potential risks associated with salvage operations, including environmental, safety, and operational risks, and develop appropriate contingency plans.
- Oversee the coordination of equipment, personnel, and resources required for salvage and marine projects, ensuring optimal utilization and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Lead incident response and emergency preparedness efforts, participating in drills and exercises to maintain a high level of readiness for potential salvage scenarios.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies, insurers, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with salvage and marine industry requirements and protocols.
- Conduct postoperation analysis and debriefs to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement, driving continuous enhancement of salvage and marine practices.
Skills & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Maritime Studies, or a related field. Master's degree or higher is advantageous.
- A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in salvage and marine operations, with a proven track record of successful salvage projects.
- Indepth understanding of maritime regulations, salvage guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Professional certifications such as, e.g., Certified Marine Salvage Professional (CMSP), Master Mariner, etc. are preferred.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee complex salvage operations from inception to completion.
- Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking abilities, especially in highpressure and timesensitive situations.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
