Your new role


If you're looking for a role in HR, National Highways are recruiting for a HR Advisor to join our team in Birmingham.

This is a fast-paced role which is both exciting and challenging where you'll provide advice and guidance to employees and managers in our Policy and Guidance team.

You'll join a large, energetic team who are constantly striving to improve our customer service through providing accurate first-line HR support.


National Highways has thousands of employees across the country, which means we have a whole range of HR queries coming in to the team to respond to and support on.


What you'll be leading on
We're looking for a self-motivated individual that strives for success in meeting deadlines and targets.

  • Provide first line advice to managers and employees within a fastpaced shared services team
  • Answering incoming HR calls and making outbound calls to resolve queries and support managers/employees.
  • Understand and be able to communicate HR policies, processes, and procedures to employees and managers
  • Support managers on sickness absence cases up to 3 months
  • Work with the Employee Relations team on complex HR queries
  • Collate and monitor feedback, exceptions and trends through queries to suggest amendments and process improvements as required
  • Policy review updates
  • Working to tight deadlines and within service level agreements
  • Transactional changes such as processing Flexible Working Applications, Maternity Leave, Leavers and Partial Retirements
  • Working collaboratively with own team and across other HR functions

To be successful

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • HR experience preferable but not a necessity as we provide great training on the job
  • Excellent telephone manner and communication skills
  • Proven ability to demonstrate good organisation and problemsolving skills
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with colleagues, work independently and demonstrate good communication skills
  • Experience of using computer systems including Microsoft systems
  • Previous experience of responding to HR policy queries in a similar role is desirable
  • Self motivated with great attention to detail and a right first time attitude
