Control Officer
Grade 5, £27,508 - £30,814 (inclusive of local weighting) depending on experience. 37 hours per week (part time working and job share considered). Permanent. Based in Hertford with the option for a blend of home and office working. Closing date is 7th July 2023 at 17:00.

An opportunity for a Control Officer has become available in the Revenues and Benefits shared service between East Herts and Stevenage Council.

The shared service has been operating successfully since 2011, and we are looking for somebody to join the Control team.

If successful you will assist across all aspects of the role including e.g. face to face interactions, telephone contact and in writing.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with carrying out fraud investigations in accordance with the appropriate legislation
  • Assist with carrying out and evidence appropriate quality assurance checks and responding to queries in accordance with the relevant legislation and requirements of the service.
  • Assist with liaison with shared service authorities and external organisations, including promotion and awareness and supply of statistical and other data.
  • Carrying out reconciliations, the management of creditors modules, checking, integrity and completion of returns from government departments, agencies, and other relevant organisations.
  • Assist with external and internal audits

  • Numeracy skills, including the ability to manipulate numerical data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer focus
  • Experience in a similar environment
  • Ability and willingness to help support and provide guidance, support, and advice to less experienced staff
  • Knowledge of Windows based office package
  • Be able to work as part of a team, willing to assist others, but also take responsibility for own work as required
  • Ability to prioritise and work accurately to targets and deadlines
  • Good word processing and IT skills, including an ability to use an online computer system to interrogate and update data
  • Selfmotivated, enthusiastic, and be able to deal with a heavy and varied workload
  • Be able to deal with difficult situations
  • Ability to maintain concentration in a busy environment
  • Work methodically, accurately, and thoroughly, paying close attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm and focussed under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritise and work accurately to targets and deadlines
  • Ability to learn, all legislation and guidance appropriate to the post
