    Job summary

    This 12 month post is designed for an ST4+ level trainee or equivalent to gain experience in and develop a sub specialty interest.

    The Fellow will gain experience in various aspects of an agreed area of interest which will be supported by a consultant mentor.

    The Royal Bolton Hospital Emergency Department continually seeks to develop and improve the service of emergency care to the local population. The Department has a strong educational background, with an established programme of undergraduate and postgraduate training as well as Consultant representation at local, regional and national level.

    All Consultants have a variety of special interests that include Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Event Medicine.

    This post will involve working weekends and out of hours.

    Please note Clinical Fellows are paid on a local pay scale that mirrors doctors in training pay scales. Basic salary offered for this role is fixed at £55, for ST4 &ST5 level candidates and £63, for ST6 - ST8 level candidates. Evening, weekend and on-call enhancements will be added according to a work schedule.

    Main duties of the job

    You will work in a safe, effective, timely fashion as part of the ED middle grade rota, which will include nights and weekends.

    You will provide departmental leadership and guidance for junior staff and work closely with operational management, senior nursing colleagues and the consultant body to embed departmental improvements.

    There will be opportunity for the Fellow to lead quality improvement in the department in an area of their interest.

    This post is an additional Senior Clinical Fellow position based in the Emergency Department of the Royal Bolton Hospital. The successful applicant will join the current Emergency Department team to provide 24 hour clinical care to those patients attending the Emergency Department of the Royal Bolton Hospital.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • ALS certification or equivalent
  • MB or equivalent. Full registration with GMC and a licence to practice
  • Should be ST4 or above
  • Evidence of satisfactory / more than satisfactory progress through training, including annual review of competence progression (ARCP) outcomes
  • Significant NHS experience
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of Emergency Medicine
  • Ability to work within the Emergency Medicine Sub- directorate and liaise with professional colleagues
  • Evidence of clinical competencies in their specialty appropriate for their stage in training
  • Research

    Essential

  • Understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues
  • Understanding of research methodology and ability to use basic qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice
  • Quality Improvement /Audit

    Essential

  • Understanding of clinical governance, including the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
