If this is you, we have an exciting opportunity for a Recruit Pay Clerk to join the Regimental Admin Office (RAO)

This role sits within the RAO Dept at the Army Training Centre Pirbright, a large and busy Phase 1 Training Establishment.

The Recruit Pay Clerk is placed within an organisation and team which plays a pivotal role in making the Army an excellent place to work.


We are offering these positions at 37 hours per week, requests to work flexibly will be considered, considering the business needs.


Job description:


  • Maintain and conduct quality assurance checks on all soldiers' accounts in accordance with the procedures contained in current regulations.
  • Prepare all relevant paperwork in pay files and utilise the Defence Recruiting System (DRS).
  • Prepare and give financial presentations on certain weeks of Recruits training; Week 1 and 1
  • Collate all initial completed paperwork from the week 1 brief and coordinate as required i.e. sign Army Dependants' Trust (ADT) forms and send them to the relevant address.
  • Arrive all new recruits on the Joint Personal Administration System (JPA), start their food and accommodation and enter all bank details, highlighting any errors to the Troop Staff.
  • Calculate and facilitate cash payments to nonbanking soldiers and ensure only money that has been earned is issued.
  • Perform cash handling duties as delegated.
  • Administer JPA expenses for recruits who require a claim being entered.
  • Collate and complete all relevant paperwork for discharging recruits.
  • Conduct a pay brief on a weekly basis to recruits is being discharged.
  • Administer all pass off documentation and ensure it is given to the Docs Clerk.
  • Send I Supports to JPA where pay discrepancies have occurred these are queries that require a resolution from the payroll team.
  • Enter insurance (PAX) information for any Recruits who have taken out a policy.
  • Be the Point of Contact for any recruit queries.
  • Assist Commonwealth Recruits on opening UK bank accounts.
  • Action BACS repayments as and when required.
  • Learn elements of other roles within the department to provide cover as and when required.
  • Be flexible to assist others across the department as and when required.

Person specification:

These roles offer challenges and high engagement with all Permanent Staff and Recruits across the establishment.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all soldiers for whose pay accounts you are responsible for, receive their correct entitlement to pay and allowances.
