  • This senior role is at the heart of the organisation working hand in glove with business leads, senior leaders and private offices across the Department to deliver superb communications.
  • You will provide expert advice, deliver high quality engagement events and run our internal communications campaigns shaping our audience into a global network of engaged ambassadors for DIT.
  • You will be an integral on the highly valued DIT Internal Communication Team, offering your invaluable professional expertise through handling advice in senior papers and ministerial submissions.
  • You will lead a fast paced environment, using audience insight to devise strategies and create engaging content.
  • You'll guide team members to achieve excellence, balancing the needs of multiple highlevel projects and events and day to day operations.

Job description:


You will:


  • Lead the creation, design, implementation and evaluation of compelling internal communication campaigns and events
  • Act as a team leader and line manager providing strong direction on team members work schedule, campaigns, planning, budget and line management
  • Provide expert handling and strategic advice to senior leaders and to teams across DIT delivering high quality communication in a timely, appropriate and consistent manner
  • Be responsible for reviewing your team's content and recommendations to ensure it is engaging, visually pleasing, well written, accurate and free from mistakes
  • Deputise for the Head of Internal Communications as required
The role will be based in Darlington.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.


Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.


Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.


Person specification:


Essential Criteria

  • Internal communication experience or communications experience with knowledge of internal communication and described transferable skills
  • Strong programme planning and horizon scanning balancing competing priorities, deadlines and people resources
  • Excellent writing standards and attention to detail
  • Excellent judgement, with highly developed analytical skills linked to strong interpersonal, consultative and negotiation skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of large, complex, multisite organisations
  • Experience of running events
  • Engaging a global workforce
