This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic, well motivated and qualified Pharmacy Technicians (or Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians due to qualify in 2024) to join our friendly, progressive, Pharmacy Team.

The Pharmacy department provides a progressive pharmacy service making it a highly rewarding working environment.
You will also gain experience from working in our busy Technical Services department preparing chemotherapy, intravenous and TPN preparations.
The successful candidates will be based mainly at Pinderfields Hospital, the largest of our three hospital sites, but will also be required to work across the Trust at Pontefract Hospital and Dewsbury and District Hospital.
There are full time and part time posts available. Full time post hours are Monday - Friday hours per week and all posts involve working some weekends and bank holidays as part of the departmental rota.
Main duties of the job
Duties include dispensing for in-patients including clinical trials and controlled drugs in the dispensary and delivering a high-quality ward-based medicines management service to a multitude of areas throughout the Trust.
Preparation ofnon-sterile medicinal products for specific patients , suspensions, creams,ointments, powders etc.
Preparation ofsterile medicinal products for specific patients in a laminar flow cabinet /isolator in a controlled clean room environment , parenteral nutrition andchemotherapy treatments.

Job descriptionJob responsibilities
Medicines Supply
Dispense and issue medicines to patients, usingactual or faxed prescriptions, ensuring that all the necessary information isavailable.
Provide advice and information to patients onhow to take their medicines effectively and safely.
Take payment for prescription charges andgenerate a receipt when required.
Ensure that all information needed for accuratestock control and prescription issues data is recorded using both paper systemsand the computerised Pharmacy Information System (PIS).
Liaise with Procurement staff about urgentlyrequired medicines and informing patients and other health care staff aboutsupply problems / delays.
Dispense clinical trial medication and completeall required documentation following the defined Standard Operating Procedures.
Dispense specialist hospital-only medicines andunlicensed medicines which require accurate, detailed records.
Dispense oral chemotherapy medicines takingnecessary precautions detailed in SOPs.
Replenish the A&E out-of-hours medicinecupboard ensuring prescription reconciliation and accurate recording of issuesto patients.
Replenish the out-of-hours Emergency drugcupboard(s) ensuring accurate recording of issues to patients.
Work with the lead Homecare Technician to helparrange the supply of medicines through Homecare Services. This will includereceiving Homecare prescriptions, reviewing orders and reconciling orders withinvoices.
MedicinesManagement
Promote good communications between Pharmacy andWard staff to ensure a safe, efficient and cost-effective medicines managementservice.
Liaise with nursing staff and ward Pharmacist tofind out about new admissions, discharges and transfers, to enableprioritisation of the Pharmacy service.
Answer queries from nurses and other healthcareprofessional, referring any clinical issues to the Pharmacist.
Helpmedicines management pharmacist(s) to develop and maintain care plans for allpatients on the relevant wards, specifically to:
Help take an accurate medication history.
Lead in the assessment and help in the reviewof medicines brought into hospital bythe patient.
Help to educate the patient about treatmentchanges and the best way in which they can manage their own medicines, whereappropriate, through self-administration schemes.
Whereappropriate, liaise and communicate with the patients PCT, GP, Community Pharmacistand/or carers in order to ensure seamless care by accurate transmission ofmedicines-related information, in both directions.
At the pointof discharge, ensure that the contents of the patients medicines locker aresafe and appropriate for the patient to take home.
Work closelywith and train the nursing staff on all medicine management policies.
