Birmingham - We anticipate that this role can be performed with a hybrid working arrangement which balances working from home and the office.

It is expected that regular attendance in the office will be required in line with business, department and team needs.


Job Purpose:


Reporting to the Head of Internal Communications and working as part of a matrixed team, you will play a key role in ensuring our people feel connected, engaged and purposeful by delivering impactful internal communications campaigns and events that help them understand and link their contribution to our strategy.


Taking a people-first approach, you will support the continuous improvement of our internal communications, provide advice to support and empower our employees to be effective communicators and assist in the development and management of our internal channels.


Responsibilities will also include an element of external communications, working alongside two Communications Managers and a number of external Communications Executives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Working under the direction of the Head of Internal Communications, implement high quality, creative and engaging internal communications campaigns that inform, inspire and motivate our people, in line with our strategic goals.
  • Ensure organisational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees.
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, including our employee intranet and weekly newsletter, as well as briefings from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form.
  • Understand briefs and translate business material and information into engaging copy for all channels that is clear and consistent with our employer brand and values, as well as with external communications messages.
  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve a range of internal communications channels using analytics and other evaluation data.
  • Coordinate and deliver internal events, including regular virtual townhall meetings and biannual inperson events.
  • Advise teams and our employee networks on communications plans and approaches.
  • Develop ideas for tactics and content and brief and commission the Content Creation team to ensure the resulting assets are engaging and fit for purpose.
  • Execute external communications campaigns as and when required. These disciplines will include, but are not limited to, sustainability, thought leadership, standards, regulation, diversity and inclusion and our corporate activities.
  • Collaborate with other Communications Executives as a team of expert peers to ensure that campaigns throughout the year are coordinated, wellplanned and resourced.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on campaigns and channel activity and revise strategy and tactics in line with performance, delivering insights for continuous improvement through relevant and appropriate KPIs and metrics.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Experience of working in internal communications in a complex, matrixed organisation with diverse internal audiences.
  • Ability to engage with a range of stakeholders to shape briefs, ask the right questions to gather required information and execute campaigns successfully.
  • Experience of coordinating engaging inperson, virtual and hybrid events.
  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage and prioritise competing demands across multiple campaigns.
  • Strong written, proofing and editing skills and ability to convey messages in a clear and compelling way, tailored according to the audience.
  • High standards of accuracy, consistency and attention to detail.
  • Ability to evaluate internal communications campaigns against corporate objectives and use this to inform the development of future activities.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively to innovate and identify ways to improve communications efforts.
  • Good understanding of communications best practice and a curiosity for current trends and the industry at large.
