    Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for assessment and treatment of own caseload
  • Assessment of children with a range of different presentations neurological, orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and developmental
  • Responsible for provision of individualised home and school exercise programs
  • Updating of programmes teaching for Teaching Assistants/Manual Handling Plans
  • Liaison with parents/carers/education staff and the interdisciplinary team including school based staff in relation to physiotherapy programme
  • Maintenance/reviews of patient equipment.
  • Review of orthotics.
  • NP/ F/U booking appointments for - booking / telephone calls.
  • Correspondence: emails / answer-phone messages/letters
  • Documentation / correspondence/ out coming patients/educational annual reviews/equipment provision/ orthotic monitoring/ joint manual handling plans
  • Responsible for organising groups
  • Teaching and clinical supervision of student physiotherapists
  • Contribute to in service training for the wider paediatric team

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy
  • State registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio
  • Able to demonstrate learning from experiences and have specific evidence of paediatric training
  • Demonstrate learning of personal effectiveness and first line leadership from experience and from both formal and informal CPD activity
  • Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Membership of CSP special interest groups relevant to Paediatrics.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Significant and relevant experience in general physiotherapy to include respiratory,orthopaedics, msk and neuro
  • Desirable

  • Specific post qualification training relating to paediatrics
  • Supervision skills
  • Understanding of use of evidence based practice in paediatrics
  • Experience with development of group activities for children
  • Previous training /experience in provision of moving and handling profile for pupils/children on ward/home
  • Evidence and CPD of personal development in paediatrics
  • Knowledge of current expected changes re education/health care plans for children in UK

  • Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to Paediatric physiotherapy
  • Able to use knowledge of a range of treatment approaches in the management of paediatric conditions.
  • Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge / experience / circumstances and utilise advanced reasoning skills.
  • Able to carry out manual therapy techniques, therapeutic handling and respiratory physiotherapy techniques requiring skillful and strenuous physical effort during the working day
  • Ability to remain up-dated with professional practice and research and integrate this into daily patient management
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate as appropriate and to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to cope with working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients or carers.
  • Ability to seek guidance and assistance when required and to be aware of personal limitations.
  • Ability to work with patients in confined spaces (at bedside, on treatment mats or in the home).
  • Competent IT skills
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Able to collect and collate monthly statistics utilizing spreadsheets and databases as required.

  • Previous experience in of work in msk clinic
  • Previous experience in mainstream school or nursery environment
  • Able to adapt treatment approach to involve Hydrotherapy, Rebound therapy, Group exercises
  • Previous experience in developing safe handling procedures within a school setting
  • Specific paediatric respiratory skills
