  • We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic emergency planner to help us develop the Environment Agency's incident management service in Hertfordshire and North London.
Working collaboratively with colleagues in area teams, local and national networks you will:


  • Provide expertise in emergency planning from within our Area Incident Team, supporting all aspects of incident planning, preparation, and response
  • Coordinate and participate in our multiagency work with external partners through Local and Borough Resilience Forums
  • Support business continuity planning for the Hertfordshire and North London Area
  • Advise on the development of multifunctional strategic and tactical plans
  • Deliver improvements to our incident response and preparation, ensuring lessons are learned and acted on from previous incidents
  • Support the training of our strategic and tactical incident response roles
  • Assist the team to carry out its wider functions including reviewing existing and emerging risks, training and exercising
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

During office hours you will contribute to leading the initial tactical response to emerging incidents.

  • You will have:
  • Practical experience of emergency planning and responding to incidents
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Engagement and networking skills demonstrating the ability to influence and collaborate with others to achieve shared outcomes
  • Confidence working on your own and as part of team with a commitment to continuous improvement, including supporting the development of others
  • The ability to lead and support working/task groups and organise/facilitate effective meetings
  • Resilience and adaptability under pressure, with the ability to prioritise and make riskbased decisions in challenging circumstances
