Introduction


The Official Report (Hansard) is the substantially verbatim report of proceedings in the House of Lords Chamber and Grand Committees.

The Official Report is also responsible for the production of Select Committee transcripts.

The post-holder will report proceedings of the House of Lords, including the Chamber, Grand Committee and Select Committees.


The Role

The key activities for this role include:

  • Producing a substantially verbatim report of parliamentary proceedings in the Chamber, Grand Committee and Select Committees, using a digital audio recording, in accordance with Hansard's terms of reference in _Erskine May_ and our performance criteria and editing guidelines.
  • Responsibility for logging proceedings in the Chamber, Grand Committee and Select Committees.
  • Proofreading as required and linemanaging and supporting variable hours staff.

Competencies and Essential Qualifications

  • Applicants are required to hold a degree or equivalent level of study.
- **Collaboration and Teamwork**: Experience of working effectively with others, including challenging, guiding and advocating where necessary, adapting effectively to a range of situations, individuals or groups
- **Communication Skills**: Excellent English-language skills, clear and accurate written skills, including consistent record keeping and reporting
- **Reporting skills**: Ability to comprehend and report complex arguments in their political context
- **Delivering at Pace**: Ability to work quickly and dependably under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- **Interest in current affairs**: Broad general knowledge and a keen interest in current affairs
- **Willingness to work unsocial hours**-
Desirable: Knowledge of and facility with publication processes and IT
