Description

Purpose of Role

Foresight News, the UK's leading forward-planning press diary, is looking for an enthusiastic, quick-learning and hard-working deputy editor to join our editorial team.

We're looking for someone who can multitask and work to multiple deadlines, and who is capable of getting to the heart of complex stories in punchy, easy-to-understand copy.

Your role will involve researching forward planning news information, covering a wide variety of issues, as well as contributing content to our newsletter and social media.

You'll be generally curious and interested in delving into new areas. Content areas include home affairs (with a strong focus on crime and courts), science, environment and climate change. An ability to quickly wrap your head around a new issue is key.

The courts content, in particular, requires a high level of organisation and willingness to make daily calls and build relationships to keep content up-to-date.

Great research, writing and organisational skills are a must, coupled with a willingness to pick up the phone and an understanding of the importance of confirming information at source.

Please note - this is not a reporting position.

You will not be writing full-length articles, but will instead be responsible for researching a variety of different stories every day at the forefront of developing news.

On top of day-to-day research work, the deputy editor is responsible for running the Foresight News desk when the editor is away, taking responsibility for the team workloads, content creation and website updates, and working with the editor regularly on production of daily and weekly newsletters and blog content.

Previous experience managing or training staff, delegating responsibilities and ensuring deadlines are met would be a plus, though are not required.

The deputy editor works with both the UK and international editors, so while the role's main content areas are UK-focused, an interest in global news would be helpful to support the international work when needed.
