An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of HR & Payroll to join Cognus on a permanent basis.
Cognus is about education - we exist to support schools, families, and children/young people to access, enjoy and thrive in educational settings in school and in the community.
Cognus is commissioned by London Borough of Sutton to provide education services to mainstream schools and specialist education providers in Sutton.
We deliver a wide range of education support services - from Admissions and Music, to SEND and Therapies - to pursue excellence in education settings and improve the lives of children, young people, and families.
This is a critical role within the organisation and advises the Strategic Leadership Team.Cognus employ circa 305 professional staff across a variety of different Terms and Conditions of employment, and this role would suit a true HR and Payroll generalist with experience of working within SMEs who is comfortable juggling day to day operational issues with the need to provide strategic guidance on all people and pay matters.
You will have the opportunity to make a positive impact and work on interesting business improvement projects to build on the Cognus culture and employee experience.
Ideally CIPD or equivalent qualified, with a strong understanding of UK employment law, you will be a confident professional with gravitas, who thrives in a fast-paced but supportive environment.
You should be solution-focused and able to demonstrate resilience, pragmatic decision-making and attention to detail. Local authority or education experience would be of benefit, but not essential.
The Head of HR and Payroll will be expected to be a role model for the professional behaviours outlined in the company Code of Conduct and to demonstrate Cognus' Mission and Values.

i) Starting salary of £35,317.17 per annum (Cognus Band 5, SCP 77)
ii) Workplace pension scheme 4% to 8% matched contributions
iii) 28 days annual leave pro rata (plus Bank Holidays)
iv) Regular manager support and supervision
v) Hybrid and Flexible working - min. 2 days per week in the office for this role, though
we welcome applicant that may wish to work 0.6FTE across more than 3 days a
week to accommodate school hours.
