About One Small Thing

One Small Thing is striving for positive change across the justice system by implementing small things in a big way.

We provide gender responsive, trauma-informed programmes within the prison and community sectors that consider the individual caught in a cycle of crime and incarceration, with the aim of humanising their experiences.

We want to shift the voice of blame and judgement and the _'what's wrong with them?'_ line of questioning to a kinder, respectful and healing approach that asks, _'What has happened to them?'_

One Small Thing's commitment to systemic change for women and their children in the justice system, has inspired us to build
Hope Street.

About the Role

As part of a brand-new team setting out to deliver this new and exciting residential service for women and their children from Hampshire, you will be our front of house, friendly and welcoming host.

The role is a key element of how we maintain the safety of all people living and working in the Hub.

Responsibilities include the monitoring all movement of people in and out of the Hub during the day when the public spaces are open, signing professionals attending meetings in and out of the buildings and directing them to the right part of the Hub, signing women's visitors in and out during visiting hours, and dealing with the public interaction with the café and the activities available to people living locally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a visible welcome/meet and greet service to all people entering the Hub through the public entrance, including members of the public using the café, residents, staff, visitors, and other professionals.
  • Welcome residents back when they return from excursions and make a note of anything about their presentation that gives you cause for concern and report this to the Community support team.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns relating to the residents or their children to colleagues immediately so that measures can be implemented to prevent harm.
  • Monitor CCTV cameras to detect any potential intruders attempting to gain access to the site over the site perimeters and keep accurate logs of any activity.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and direct them to the appropriate member of the team.
  • Help with the setting up of activities taking place in the activity rooms and book participants in.
  • Summon assistance from colleagues in the staff area on the first floor if any person(s) who enters Hope Street appears to be under the influence of substances, behaves in a threatening or menacing way towards others, or is a person who you know is not permitted to access the Hub.
  • Summon assistance from the relevant agency (paramedics, police, the fire service, or emergency contractors) in the event of emergencies or serious incidents and act as the key point of contact to ensure they can access and exit the premises safely.
  • Proactively pursue good relationships with neighbours and the local community and respond quickly to any complaints or concerns raised.
