- There is an exciting opportunity to join our Fisheries team in the north east of England. This is a small team, working with both internal colleagues and external partners to create a better place by maintaining, improving and developing fish populations, opportunities for angling
Within this role you will:
- Provide fisheries advice to Environment Agency programmes, plans and projects to ensure compliance with legislation as well as habitat creation.
- Provide fisheries management advice to customers
- Work with customers, partners and internal colleagues to identify opportunities to enhance fish passage and improve habitats
- Work with colleagues to identify and influence opportunities to deliver multiple benefits for the environment and to work with natural processes.
- As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- Assist in the management and maintenance of Environment Agency assets including fish passes.
- The team
- You will join an experienced, supportive team of fisheries professionals providing freshwater fisheries expertise to the Environment Agency to deliver our functional, corporate and statutory duties. You will work in a diverse, beautiful part of the country which has both rural and urban areas, upland and lowland rivers, stillwaters and estuaries. The North-East supports some of the most important salmon and sea trout populations and fisheries in England, as well as coarse fish and eels.
- Experience/skills required
- We are seeking two Fisheries Technical Officers with both field and deskbased experience, and a proven ability to deliver successful outcomes for fish and fisheries.
You should also have:
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence a broad range of customers
- Personal motivation and adaptability in delivering priorities
- The ability to build, develop and nurture relationships
- A track record of collaborating with others to deliver shared priorities
