This is an exciting role for someone who enjoys working with young people with a diverse set of needs.

We are looking for a qualified Coach, who is energetic, confident and knowledgeable in working with and looking after both horses and young people.

The farm facilitate a range of equine learning activities, including riding. We have young people at a diverse range of riding experiences and needs.

You need to be an empathic, tolerant and multi-skilled coach, experienced with managing a group with different needs, wishes and skills.


This role is about providing current staff and young people with training, supervision and guidance to learn all things equine, and have oversight of the horses.

You will need to meet the qualification criteria of BHS qualified level 3 coach, AI or equivalent.

You will be teaching young people with a diverse set of needs, who are anywhere from beginners to committed skilled/developing riders.

There are currently horse experienced staff in the team who will be under your guidance as we together develop the equine learning element of the provision.

Job Requirement


The role holder will have responsibility for Equine learning programmes and oversee the care plan for all equines with Elysian, and Westland Farm.

You will also provide support to all Elysian provision in the management of the Equine learning programmes and Equine care.

This role includes working with complex needs and behaviours, including emotional, social, behavioural, learning and mental health needs.

The role holder will support children and young people to progress their Equine learning in the best possible way in accordance with their ascertained needs, their wishes, feelings and ambitions.

The role holder will manage and train a range of support staff as part of the wider senior team at Elysian, along with sharing expertise and working together in an integrated way to ensure the children and young people have a seamless and consistent bespoke package of care and learning that ensures progression.


Experience and Qualifications needed:


  • BHS level 3 Coaching Qualification is Essential (previously called AI).
  • Degree or higher education in a relevant field or extensive experience working with vulnerable children and young people would be beneficial.
  • At least 5 years' experience of direct client work.
  • Experience of SEND education setting is beneficial.
  • Experience of working with Emotional Social and Behavioural Difficulties is preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of Safeguarding and good professional boundaries is essential.

  • Ability to project a positive public image of self and the organisation whilst exhibiting a culture of outstanding service and high ethical standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English is essential
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining constructive interpersonal relationships within the organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience of working within a multidisciplinary and/or diverse environment.
  • Accomplished expertise in equine care and management.

Overview of role

  • Overseeing all Equine care and activities across Elysian, with a particular focus on the Westland farm site.
  • Supporting young people to undertake educational and therapeutic activities with Equines.
  • Training and supporting all Elysian staff to support the equine learning, activities and structures programmes.
  • Provide informal and formal assessment of new young people, and formulating goals, individualised for each young person. Undertake riding and equine assessments of children, young people and staff.
  • Maintain any records necessary for the evaluation of service needs and efficiency and ensure that documentation is clear, accurate and in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Maintain records and documents to ensure compliance with the Riding Establishment licence (if applicable), BHS (if applicable) Department for Education and general Health and Safety.
  • Undertake research relevant to the work as needed.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Prepare and deliver structured Equine Learning sessions for groups and individuals, including workshops and creating, organising and delivering learning plans/lessons and risk assessments where applicable.
  • Provide coaching and training for learners, junior or new staff.
  • Provide supervision of staff, apprentices and/or volunteers.
  • Oversee and undertake general liaison with young people, their carers/parents and relevant professionals within and outside the organisation with regards to general progress reporting and follow up.
  • Contribute to the overall promotion activities of the organisation.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the organisations and general team agenda, which may include ensuring animals are healthy, happy and looked after, and/or developmental or maintenance tasks as part of a current or ongoin
