This is a great opportunity for to join Bristol City Council Parks Service as a Chargehand helping to maintain our fantastic parks and green spaces.


What will I be doing?

  • To ensure all health and safety processes, instructions and risk assessments are adhered to by staff and volunteers while carrying out practical grounds maintenance and improvement tasks onsite.
  • To monitor the quality and effectiveness of work undertaken reporting to the Grounds Supervisor any team or individual performance concerns as necessary.
  • To carry out a range of practical tasks including advanced horticulture, nature conservation works and grounds maintenance services across the city.
  • Carrying out a full range of grounds maintenance operational tasks including grass cutting, pruning, sports ground maintenance, conservation management tasks, bin emptying and removing waste on site.
  • Leading and instructing volunteers in parks and green spaces and support the delivery of events
  • Supporting seasonal workers, apprentices and work placements
  • Carrying out small repairs to park features, furniture and infrastructure and inclement weather tasks eg gritting

What do I need to have?

  • NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace
  • Willing and able to work across a range of sites throughout the city in all weather and on weekends when requested.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to drive a wide range of vehicles and plant
  • Good communication skills

The vacancy is in the North team based at Sea Mills Depot. The post-holder could be asked to work in other areas of the city in future. This is a full time permanent role.
