Do you have what it takes to transform society?
We are looking for a Senior Hydraulic Modeller to join our Flooding and Water Management Team in Scotland. The role can be based out of Edinburgh or Glasgow with flexible working.

You will join a growing team of flood risk and sustainable drainage experts, hydraulic modellers, hydrologists, geomorphologists, civil engineers, water quality and economics specialists.


As part of the Water Environment Department you will promote the sustainable management of water resources, helping to protect the water environment, make people and places safer and more resilient to flood risk and climate change.


What does the role involve?


Our Flooding and Water Management team works on a variety of flood protection projects across the UK, in both the public and private sectors.

You will guide, and be responsible for, the development of hydraulic models and the development of flood risk management measures within a multi-disciplinary environment.

You will work closely with project managers to coordinate resources, administer contracts, manage clients, and track quality/programme/budget. You will possess a deep technical understanding of hydraulic modelling, hydrology, option assessments and economic assessments.

You will be comfortable using the standard hydraulic modelling packages, GIS CAD and possess the soft skills to successfully deliver public and statutory consultations.


Your role will include acting as a mentor for team members supporting the development of their skills, providing technical guidance and supervising their deliverables.


To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have significant experience in hydraulic modelling applied to a range of projects
  • Good technical understanding of UK hydrology and open channel hydraulics
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of standard hydraulic modelling packages e.g. Innovyze ICM, Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS or SRH2D
  • Demonstrate ability to work within agreed deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance and control strategy.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of economic appraisals (MCM, B£ST etc).
  • Have experience in optioneering and schematic design.
  • Display excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Be an excellent written and verbal communicator.
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead and manage projects
  • Knowledge of Flood Risk Assessment, Natural Flood Management and Sustainable Drainage techniques is also desirable.
  • Ideally hold or be working towards chartered status from an appropriate institution (C.Eng or C.WEM).
