Band 9 - £36,647 - £40,220 per annum


The Team


The Markets and Places Team is part of the Economic Development and Skills service as part of the Regeneration Directorate.

Responsible for the delivery of regular street markets across different city locations providing support for traders, ensuring compliance and dealing with all aspects of set up and closure of events/markets.

Business support, including start up and growth is a key part of this role.


What is the role?


Working closely with the Places and Markets Manager you will develop and deliver the Markets Strategy and ensure that partners (including traders) have clear and transparent communication and sources of support.

You will also be required to attract new traders to markets, building cases for new events and markets and promote Portsmouth.


You will ensure compliance to Market Policies, licencing and other regulatory requirements, through appropriate action and reporting, ensuring prompt repairs and monitoring concerns until issues resolved for traders and delivering a high level of customer service.

Who is the person?
You will have good communication skills, both written and verbal and be able to build positive working relationships.

You will have a good level of spoken and written English as well as be able to deal with basic financial information.

You will be able to interpret basic legislation and regulations to ensure the council compliance (The council holds NABMA membership to support appropriate CPD)


If you can work flexibly to include some evenings and weekends as well as have the ability to travel independently around the city to meet business requirements (appropriate insurance to move between sites when using own vehicles, or through effective use of public transport / active travel) then we would love to hear from you.
