This is a fixed term appointment for service post starting at the beginning of April 2023 for 6-12 months. This post has arisen due to vacancies in the East of England School of Paediatrics rotation.

The Paediatric Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn prides itself on being a very caring supportive department.

The consultants always work as part of the team and are readily available to give advice, practical assistance and hands on acute care.

The junior doctor tier is supported by a full tier of middle-grade doctors. The department has a very good teaching programme particularly aimed at the paediatric membership. All junior doctors take part in the teaching programme.

The Paediatric Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is very busy.

We have a 12 cot Local NICU (previously called level 2), a 22 bedded inpatient ward and a 5 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit.

We also have a separate paediatric outpatient department which was purpose built.

  • The post holder will work with other junior doctor staff and middle grade staff covering the general paediatric service and a junior tier doctor or ANNP/ENP covering the Level 2 NICU to cover routine postnatal ward paediatric care.
  • During the general paediatric service the post holder will be rotating through the postnatal ward (Castleacre Ward) to complete the newborn examinations (NIPE).
  • The Consultant Paediatrician is always readily available but is not resident.
  • The post holder would have opportunities to attend consultant outpatient clinics for training.
  • The post holder would be expected to contribute to the departmental teaching programme and also the departmental audit programme.
We have medical students attached to the department from Cambridge and UEA Medical Schools. The post holder would be expected to help with their teaching and supervision.


Bleep holder duties would be In the junior doctor rota and the post holder would be expected to do an appropriate share of these duties.

We would also expect the person to undertake additional duties on a short-term basis In the event of sudden Illness or absence of a colleague In their rota.

There is a requirement to participate In the on-call rota which is a full shift rota and EWTD.
