The role:


A senior role within the UK Actuarial Function with responsibility to develop and support the achievement of functional and therefore business strategies in the context of the of a robust regulatory framework.


  • To manage and provide direction to others, so that actuarial services provided to or within the UK entities are comfortably in line with regulatory expectations and demands.
  • To provide oversight, challenge and recommendation with regards to inputs from other teams in the Group Actuarial Function (Reserving and Pricing) to ensure that technical analysis, governance and outcomes are considered fit for purpose to support management and Board decision making in line with Good practice and regulatory expectations.
  • To support the connectivity of the UK Actuarial Function with other functions such as Capital, Risk and Underwriting to demonstrate appropriate executive oversight through the
  • To support the UK Chief Actuary in their interactions with and deliverables to the UK regulators, including Lloyd's.

Key accountabilities:


  • Establishing recommendations for enhancements to current processes and procedures and supporting their implementation, as part of the Actuarial Function Opinion Reporting (Across Technical Provisions, UW Policy and Reinsurance Adequacy).
  • Management of the creation of key deliverables for reporting to Lloyd's and the PRA to develop engagement and respond to specific requests.
  • Development and management of action plans to respond to Actuarial Function Recommendations.
  • Support for Governance of key outputs for the UK Entities for Executive and Board reporting across Reserving, Pricing and Planning.


Production of papers and attendance at selected Executive Sub-Committees in collaboration with the rest of the UK Actuarial Function team and the Chief Actuary.


Oversight of the Actuarial Function Reports in respect of UW Policy and Reinsurance Adequacy to support UK Chief Actuary's sign-off.


Effectively articulate the legal and regulatory demands that impact the actuarial team, and the broader business, to contribute to decision making with regards to technical actuarial issues, risk appetite and underwriting strategy.

Role model connectivity between different parts of the Actuarial value proposition, including Pricing, Reserving and Capital.

Drive the change agenda supporting the Strategy for broadening Actuarial influence at a management and Executive level at Aspen.

Support Mentoring and development initiatives to strengthen team capabilities, build functional expertise and foster collaborative, values-driven team culture.

Support communication from Actuarial leadership across the UK Actuarial team.


Skills & experience:


Knowledge

  • Expert skills in actuarial analysis and modelling, management and communication
  • Strong technical experience across the Actuarial spectrum
  • Established knowledge of actuarial techniques used for pricing and/or reserving insurance
  • Proficient user of simulation techniques and other actuarial techniques used for pricing loss sensitive product features
  • Good understanding of financial services industry best practice in actuarial analysis, modelling, and underwriting
  • Good understanding of compliance issues

Skills

  • Proven Leadership capabilities
  • Excellent communication at all levels including experience at Executive/Board and with UK Regulators
  • Proven ability to influence and drive tactical and strategic implementation of change.
  • Proven ability to persuade and influence both directly and indirectly
  • Proven ability to manage people and other resources effectively
  • Proven ability to produce detailed reports at various levels
  • Proven ability to conceptualise and lead others
  • Excellent in the use and interpretation of numerical data
  • Ability to plan and manage workloads and expectations to meet deadlines utilising cross functional teams.

Experience

  • Qualified Actuary (preferably Fellow of) accredited by Institute of Actuaries or equivalent body
  • Extensive experience in corporate or consulting environment, the majority in general insurance
  • Extensive experience in managing regulatory demands and relationships
  • Management of Cross functional projects and deliverables
  • Extensive experience in insurance industry
