Volunteer Co Ordinator


The role involves recruiting, developing & supporting a team of volunteers to enhance and support various projects within the organisation and the wider community.


You will have the ability to develop a comprehensive recruitment, induction & training programme alongside having the ability to provide ongoing support and training to a large team of volunteers.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must for this role


Hours: 16 hours per week


Salary :

Full time equivalent salary is £21,407.36 per annum and the post is funded to 31st March 2024 initially - with possibility of further extension.

The role


The postholder will be responsible for recruiting and training volunteers who will work within the CADB and in its community locations.

They will also work with other project staff to promote volunteering, nurture and develop volunteers in offices and community locations.

You will work in various locations as needed, but primarily in the centre of Doncaster.


Recruitment of Volunteers

  • Devise and implement a recruitment and training plan in order to recruit and retain volunteers, ensuring that the prime focus is to enable learning and to empower people to develop into their chosen role/ volunteering opportunity
  • Work with local organisations and partner agencies to identify sources of recruitment for volunteers relevant to new and existing projects.

Training, Development and Support of Volunteers

  • Devise effective learning activities, using the work already being done by the Supervisors and adapting training materials from Citizens Advice.
  • Delivery of appropriate learning activities to volunteers in both groups and as individuals.
  • Work with the volunteers through mentoring and dissemination of information
  • Ensure systems are in place to collect feedback on what learners have learnt and been able to put into practice.
  • Carry out appraisals and monitor the quality of the work carried out by volunteers
  • Collate and review feedback on learner outcomes and the quality of the service.

Partnership Working

  • Establish, develop and maintain a range of partnerships to reach learners and gain support for volunteering
  • Participate in other meetings as required.
  • Assist in developing relationships with key partners and other external agencies.

Wider Roles

  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, policies and practices in relation to your job role, identifying your own training needs where appropriate. Ensure that you feedback such information to other members of the team
  • Attend team meetings, CADB staff meetings and those involving other workers as appropriate.
  • Participate in the work of the CADB as a team member, being prepared to give and receive support from colleagues.

General

  • To carry out extra tasks where appropriate as determined by your manager.
  • In the absence of appropriate administrative staff or volunteers, carry out all administration and clerical duties.
  • Maintain your diary for appointments and any follow up actions.
  • Ensure all required records and statistical information are kept up to date, and that reports are submitted to meet CADB and contractual deadlines.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of recruitment / working with volunteers.
  • Experience of devising and delivering training to both groups and individuals.
  • Able to engage with, empower and motivate others by offering mentoring and support
  • Ability to work to deadlines and achieve set targets.
  • Ability/ experience of planning and developing learning activities.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills planning and prioritising own work load.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate and work with people from all backgrounds
  • Non judgemental, willing and able to work in accordance within equal opportunities policies.
  • Experience of negotiating with third parties.
  • An ability and willingness to work both on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexibly as the project develops.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of establishing and developing partnerships with other agencies and joint working.
  • Understanding theory and principles of adult learning and development.
  • Ability to maintain and develop volunteering Opportunities

Terms and conditions


Full time equivalent salary is £21,407.36 per annum and the post is funded to 31st March 2024 initially - with possibility of further extension.


A full-time post holder will be entitled to 26 days leave per year plus statutory bank holidays (pro-rata entitlement for a part time role).

The leave year runs from 1st April to 31st March.
