Position:
DAY / NIGHT CARE ASSISTANT (Permanent & Bank Shifts)**
Responsible to: Home Manager

Hours - On a rota basis

7.45pm - 2.45pm, 2.45pm - 9.45pm and 9.45 pm - 7.45am on a rota basis, (may include working weekends and bank holiday etc )


Purpose of position:


  • To support the Manager / Deputy Manager / Senior Staff / other carers in all aspects of the efficient running of the home
  • To lead by positive example and share with other staff in meeting the personal, emotional and psychological needs of the residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and also promotes independence, choice and autonomy
  • Care should be provided in an empowering manner in the same way the resident would usually do for themselves, or that would reasonably be given by members of the residents own family and to only assist when necessary
  • It is not expected to include tasks that would normally be expected to be undertaken by a trained nurse.

Principal Responsibilities:


  • To ensure that you and your colleagues contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the home, service provision and the creation of the right atmosphere.
  • Support residents with all aspects of their changing needs, including personal care and psychological and emotional support
  • Contribute to providing written reports in the residents' social and health care plans, ensure handwriting is neat and tidy and reports are factual and informative. Ensure incident and accident reports are written up without delay and the appropriate persons informed
  • To support and assist residents with their morning and bed time routine, dressing, washing. Going to bed and getting up is personal choice for our residents
  • To support and assist residents with any mobility issues and any other physical impairment
  • Ensure that residents' rooms and common spaces are left properly clean, tidy and maintained and report any health and safety issues ( slips, trips and falls etc )
  • Participate/facilitate in staff meetings and in staff training and development activities.
  • Support Home Manager in his or her duties as the "responsible officer" for the home under the national Minimum Standards Act 2000, Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974 and the Fire Regulations.
  • Participate in the maintenance of other records as may be required by CQC or the Registered Provider of the home.
  • Participate in Supervision and Appraisal
  • Participate in Induction and any training, mandatory or otherwise that may be required.
13 To care and support sensitively those residents who may be temporary sick and needing for example minor dressings, bed nursing, help with eating / drinking

14 To care and support those residents who may be dying, to support relatives and other colleagues in their loss as appropriate

15 To make and change beds to the required standard, tidy rooms, do light cleaning and empty commodes.

16 To set tables in the dining room and assist those who require support with drinks / meals, prepare light meals, snacks and drinks regularly to those may be in need t

17 To answer emergency bells in a timely manner


18 To carry out regular visual checks on residents at intervals determined by the residents / relatives and Manager of the home, ensuring dignity, privacy and respect are adhered to at all times.

19 To carry out regular checks of the building at regular intervals, ensure fire doors are not propped open nor exits blocked with special reference to fire safety and security

  • Experience preferred
  • Proof of two Covid vaccines will be required

All staff are expected to respect the requirements under the Data Protection Act 1998.

All staff must ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974.
