We have an opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapy Assistant to join our musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Outpatients team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is part of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and is in close proximity to the City Centre, with excellent transport links.


The musculoskeletal physiotherapy outpatient's team provides specialist, expert assessment and treatment for a wide variety of musculo-skeletal injuries and patient complaints.

These include referrals from primary care, accident and emergency as well as speciality referrals such as orthopaedics, rheumatology, haematology and neurosurgery.


This is an opportunity for applicants looking to move into a senior position, to provide skilled support to the musculoskeletal outpatient team and assist registered therapy staff to provide an effective and efficient patience centred service.

You will be working with, and be supported by a dynamic and enthusiastic team of skilled professionals and have the opportunity to see a diverse range of patients and enhance your skills in specialist areas.

The Physiotherapy service actively supports CPD and personal development for all staff. We have a comprehensive in service training programme. This is a full time post for 37.5 hours.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

Experience of working in an acute NHS Trust with at least 2 years working as a Therapy Assistant within a therapy or fitness instruction environment is required for this post.


Although closely supported by members of the team, much of the treatment will be delivered independently following a detailed and recorded referral process.


They will be working within the musculoskeletal outpatient setting, primarily in a gym environment performing both face to face and virtual treatment sessions for a wide variety of conditions.

The role also includes the delivery of exercises classes to both face to face and virtual audiences. These classes require exceptional motivational skills and a positive approach to rehabilitation.

Person specification:
Qualifications:


Essential:


  • Level 2 English (e.g. GCSE Grade C/4 and above, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Level 2 or equivalent Mathematics.
  • Good level of spoken English.

Desirable:


  • Associate membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or other relevant professional body.
  • NVQ3 or higher in related health field e.g. Mobility/exercise/equipment or BTEC or evidence of working towards it.
  • Completion of Care certificate.

Experience:


Essential:


  • Previous NHS experience in an appropriate area
  • Significant experience (2 yrs+) as a Therapy Assistant within a therapy OR fitness instructor/gym environment.
  • Knowledge of the aims and principles of physiotherapy.
  • Understand patient centred care.
  • An understanding of safe provision and use of patient equipment in this area.
  • Awareness of health & safety within a working environment.
  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality

Desirable:


  • Experience of leading exercise classes or exercise education groups.
  • Understanding basic principles of exercise progression and regression.
  • Experience of delivering lifestyle management.
  • Understating selfmanagement for long term conditions.
