Job overview:


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Pathology team at UHB as a Stores and Logistics support to help maintain our stock and consumables across the four sites of UHB.


The post holder will be part of a team of Stores Operatives who will be responsible for maintaining of stock levels and distribution of laboratory supplies across UHB Pathology and its four sites Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital.

This post involves a large amount of manual handling requirements with lifting and carrying goods and consumables of various weights.


There may also be a requirement to provide transport services for the delivery of samples and consumables between other hospitals, GP Surgeries and UHB sites using Pathology vehicles therefore applicants must be over the age of 21 with a valid UK Driving Licence.

The post holder should be available to cover duties of team members during periods of annual leave or absence.


The post holder will report to Pathology Operations Managers and will be required to work alongside all staff within the laboratories to ensure efficient stock management in each department.


You will need to have good computer knowledge to update and monitor systems and spreadsheets and be able to catalogue and file orders and requests.

Main duties, tasks & skills required:

Main duties of this role will include, but not limited to; the regular recording of stock levels, raising orders, receipting and unpacking of deliveries and locating supplies within appropriate stock areas.

There will also be the responsibility for maintaining consumable supplies in the discipline specific laboratory areas.

This will require the post holder to work closely with laboratory managers and other laboratory staff to ensure sufficient levels are maintained.

There will be a requirement to provide transport services for the delivery of samples and consumables between other hospitals, GP Surgeries and UHB sites using Pathology vehicles

The post holder will need to regularly perform general housekeeping duties within the store areas. Ensuring that the areas are a safe and tidy environment.

Qualifications:


Essential:


  • Full Clean UK Driving Licence
  • Good General Education (e.g. GCSE English and Maths A-C or GCSE Level 94)
  • Over the age of 21

Desirable:


  • NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration/Customer Service or equivalent

Experience:


Essential:


  • Experience of working within a stores/warehouse or similar environment
  • Experience of using computerised systems
  • Computer literate including Word and Excel
  • Experience and safe handling of goods and various weights
  • Experience of safe and courteous driving
  • Appreciation of stock management techniques
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at work

Desirable:


  • Experience using stores/warehouse equipment such as pallet trucks
