Hours of work: 20 hours per week

Salary:
£9.50/hour


Main Purpose of the Role
To prepare, cook and present food at Café Refresh a subsidiary Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington.

Working flexibility as a member of a team, you will provide delicious food to our customers. You will manage the kitchen to high standard and in accordance to food safety legislation.

Your main duties will including but not limited to food preparation, maintaining food hygiene standards, managing volunteers and handling money.


Specific Responsibilities

  • To prepare, cook and present a high standard of wellbalanced meals and snacks.
  • Ensure that a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the kitchen, to meet the required standards of practice prescribed by Environmental Health Agencies
  • Carry out good food Management, temperature controls and documentation according to current Food Hygiene regulations
  • Ensure all equipment used is well maintained, in good working order and to log any defects or issues.
  • To perform appropriate kitchen opening checks, closing checks and monitoring.
  • Incorporating, cultural and dietary needs as required by the customers.
  • Work closely with the management team on menu choices that reflect customers' needs and preferences.
  • Purchase supplies in accordance with the planned menu, whilst monitoring and controlling the service from suppliers
  • Ensure all stock ordered is consistent with planned menus that reflect choice and preference
  • Maintain an accurate stock control
  • To research and be actively aware of current legislative policies and guidelines for food preparation and serving e.g. Allergens
  • To supervise kitchen assistants and volunteers.
  • To perform end of day cashing up and reporting for the café.
  • To manage Café volunteers, ensuring they adhere to health and Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Genuine interest in working in a kitchen/café
  • Experience and genuine interest in preparing food / cooking
  • Previous experience of cooking to a high standard
  • Excellent understanding of current legislation e.g. Food Hygiene, Allergens
  • Good understanding of the needs of vulnerable Older People
  • Have a working knowledge of opening and closing procedures of a kitchen.
  • A commitment to equal opportunities

Desirable

  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Food Hygiene
  • Previous experience of working in a café or restaurant setting

  • Ability to work on own initiative.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
  • Follow recipes and presentation specifications
  • Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain a clean working station whilst adhering to health & safety standards
  • Assist with the cleaning and organisation of kitchen and equipment
  • Restock items as needed throughout the shift
  • Adhere to all food hygiene & safety standards
